I've posted this before; great towing video's. Who really needs more than 40hp?

Back on topic, it sounds like the OP's budget is between $4-5k.
For that, I would look for a much newer 1/2 ton. 7k lbs total shouldn't be a problem for a Ram 5.9l, Ford 5.4l or GM 5.3l.

Since it sounds like you want the room of a Suburban, that would be the way to go but $4500 is high for that old 95 and more engine then you need. You can probably find a Suburban or even 4 door Tahoe xl 1/2 ton 2000 or newer with the 5.3l or an Expedition 5.4l for that price. Much more comfortable interior and still plenty of tow capacity for 7k lbs.

I don't know how the pricing is around you but 2000-2003 Burbs/Tahoes go for around $4500 all the time like this one:

For the record, the RAM with a 12 valve Cummins and stick shift or built auto is easily the best towing vehicle of the 90's. ;-)
None of the auto tranny's were bulletproof but GM had the best for the 90's in my opinion.

Perhaps my previous post was misunderstood...
I will be towing a tractor that weighs 7K lbs.
So, with trailer, and gear, and people...etc....I really need a 3/4 ton

Also, my budget is actually around 9K.
I'm just no seeing why I need to spend that much when a 4500 dollar suburban (or other brand truck) would serve the bill just fine.

I've owned half ton chevies in the past, and thought they didnt really tow all that great...at least no better than my 97 toyota 4runner.
I've towed a race car all over the southeast for many years, but the total weight was probably only about 4500 lbs.

anyways, just more info to clear up any possible misconceptions

If that Suburban does not work out, etc. - pm me for a craigslist post of one I have for sale. They do make good tow vehicles btw. That looks like a neat race car!

yeah, it was a fun car...had to get out of racing three years ago with the baby was born. That was our discretionary income, ha ha.

It was a 1989 Suzuki Swift GTi, and on the dyno made a whopping 92hp

still, had big brakes, so I gained time there...

I watched some of the video, that looks like a blast. I had a friend in high school that raced SCCA. He raced MG midgets.

yeah, it really is a lot of fun, no question.
It is just a little expensive. And if you want to be competitive, it is even more expensive.
The old saying goes..."How do you make a small fortune in road racing? Start with a large one..."
