Not 100% sure, but I think JD introduced hydros to their garden tractor line in the late 60’s with the 140.
I have both a 110 and 318 and would definitely recommend the 318 over the 110. While they are both “classics” and fine machines, the 318 is larger, offers more comfort, features, maneuverability and hydraulics. Both machines are quite stable on slopes, but I would give the edge to the 318 as it is a bit wider and heavier. For comparison, I have 1.5 acres to mow and I find the 110 with its 39” deck just a bit small compared to the 50” deck on the 318.
You should be able to find a nice 110 for under 1k, a nice 318 I would be thinking in the 1.5-2k range.
That said, my top 2 gas versions of JD garden tractors would be the 318 or its big brother the 420.

The 200 series replaced the 100 series in 1975. The 214 is pretty much a 110/112 with more hp. Even restored the price sounds high to me for just tractor and mower. The 200 series doesn’t seem to have the “classic” status the 110 does.

TRACTOR HAS FRESH TUNE UP OIL HAS BEEN CHANGED NEW FUEL AND AIR FILTERS CARB DISASSEMBLED AND CLEANED STARTER DISASSEMBLED AND REDONE HAS 12 VOLT CAR BATTERY,BRAKES REDONE STEERING REDONE TIRES ARE IN GOOD CONDITION SEAT IS NEW LIGHTS WORK AMP GUAGE WORKS. NO ABNORMAL NOISE OR SMOKE STARTS AND RUNS WELL IT IS A FOURTEEN HORSEPOWER KOHLER (WORKHORSE) EVERYTHING POSSIBLE HAS BEEN LUBRICATED. TRANSMISSION IS A FOUR SPEED ,WORKS IN ALL GEARS (HAS NORMAL GROWL LIKE ALL THE ONE AND TWO HUNDRED SERIES). VARIATOR WORKS WELL TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN DRAINED AND REFILLED WITH FRESH GEAR OIL. HAS MANUAL PTO TO ENGAGE BLADES. THE DECK HAS BEEN REDONE WITH ANY NEEDED PULLIES & BEARINGS, BELT IS NEW BLADES ARE IN GOOD CONDITION,QUIET RUNNING GOOD CUTTING. THIS IS A # 47 DECK WHICH ACTUALY CUTS A 46 INCH PATH. THE VACUUM UNIT READS (EASY-VAC) ON THE CHUTE STICKERS WERE GONE FROM THE UNIT BUT I QUESS IT IS ALSO EASY-VAC. IT HAS A FIVE HORSEPOWER BRIGGS/STRATTON THAT IS LIKE NEW I CHANGED OIL AND SPARK PLUG DRAINED OLD GAS . IT USUALLY STARTS ON FIRST PULL. I DONT THINK IT HAS HAD VERY MUCH USE. IT DOES A GREAT JOB OF VACUUMING LEAVES. THE HOSE I PUT ON THIS IS NEW STILL HAS PROTECTIVE PLASTIC IT IS WIRE REINFORCED AND WAS VERY EXPENSIVE. THE WAGON IS ALSO NEW AND PAINTED GREEN IT IS A 17 CUBIC FOOT NOT 10 LIKE MOST VACUUM CARTS. IT IS DUMPS LIKE MOST CARTS. I AM NOT MUCH OF A CARPENTER BUT I BUILT THE (COVER OR TOP) IT CAN BE LIFTED OFF BY TWO PEOPLE (NOT BECAUSE OF WEIGHT) SO THE CART CAN BE USED AS A REGULAR CART. THE REAR DOOR IS HELD ON WITH WITH FOUR BARRELL LOCKS EASILY REMOVED THEN TAIL GATE LIFTS OUT IT WILL HOLD LOTS OF MULCHED LEAVES/GRASS. THE VACUUM UNIT ENGINE IS ATTATCHED TO THE TRACTOR AND CAN BE REMOVED WITH ONE BOLT AND ONE PERSON CAN REMOVE IT. IF I`VE LEFT ANYTHING OUT PLEASE ASK.
