Best place to buy 20' lengths of grade 70 chain?

I've recently broken a 5/16" chain twice while yanking out saplings with it.
It wasnt Gr70 right? Iv yanked 6" trees with a running start and not damaged a link.

Last summer at TSC I was pricing some 5/16 grade 70 chain and I noticed that twenty feet of that was more expensive than a precut twenty footer with hooks.

My 3/8 chains came pre-made from Menards. They have worked well with my last 4120 and 4720. Not sure if they still carry it or not but would buy more from them if needed. I also use cheater pipe and have had good luck with these.

Excavator, track loader, skid steer etc, etc. I use a pretty good sized cheater bar with my boomers on larger equipment. For some odd reason it seems like I don't get ratcheting boomers as tight.

By overtightening the chains you are taking them out of the range where they can absorb energy elastically. In doing that you ensure something will be damaged when you hit a bump. Whether that is the chain, the equipment, or the truck just depends on relative strengths. Break strength of 5/16 gr70 is around 18000lb. Most of our equipment could be suspended on a single strand without even damaging the chain. A couple of thousand cross chained preload combined with recheck down the road is sufficient without being abusive.

Sorry, but after literally loading and unloading a few thousand pieces of machinery costing up to several hundred thousand dollars and having our state's DOT officers come to our mine and train us on what they look for, I'll have to say I completely disagree with you. I will also never use straps to secure a rolling load that weighs much more than an ATV.

Your post seems to indicate that you've only worked with small equipment because, without any doubt, question or debate, 5/16" grade 70 chain is too small for what I mostly haul. The thread was about pricing, not what I need to use. I'm well aware of what I need to use, thank you. I can snap 5/16" g70 chain all day long even with my modest sized equipment.

I actually ended up splitting a 400' barrel of this 3/8 inch diameter Grade 70 Chain FULL DRUM with a friend. I can easily cut the chain and have plenty of G70 pin on clevis hooks. I really don't have a big issue with made in China chain, but if I can avoid it, I will. This is a good deal on US made quality chain.

Do I have to point out that in one breath you say you are looking for the best price (cheapest) for GR70 3/8" chain and then in another you say you carry machinery that costs up to several hundred thousand dollars. I'm glad to see you bought chain made in the US. It's been my observation that while chain made in China will meet the load requirements chain made in the US usually exceeds it.
