Good idea, but it doesn't fit his criteria -- Non Self-Propelled. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Andy, you may need to be a bit more flexible in your requirements.

I agree with Gatorboy - get a reel mower.

Here's a good one for $129 delivered! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My point was I am looking for the best quality mower for the lowest amount of money. Simply put, I am looking for value.

I could easily spend 99 dollars on whatever Walmart has on special, but would I be replacing it every other year? Meanwhile, there could be another brand out there I don't know about for $199 that outperforms the rest. Basically, best mower for the money in the "non-premium" catagory.

Also, I don't want a self-propelled mower because I really would get no use from it. I use the mower to manueveur around the flower beds and the house and I would rather have the added manueveurbility than the added weight.

Most economy mower mfgrs. for the most part use the same engines, the major cost item on the mower. Other issues are: ease of height adjustment, effort to push, wheel construction and replacement part availability. I would not hesitate to buy from Walmart. Theirs are made by Murray, Inc. If something is wrong Walmart will hold Murray accountable.

Re: Best push mower in the \"low priced\" catagory?

Been there, done that. Started klling Blackberry bushes with a machete...to much work. Next was a good weedwhacker with blade...got tangled in the vines. Goats love to eat blackberry bushes and keep nibbling at the new growth until the vine gives up the fight. Unfortunately they got bored with the berries and ate the Mrs. Lillies for desert. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Not sure if they got an upset stomach from that 'cause then they tried the fringe (mud flap) on the back of the RV. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif At some point they figured out this was a big 'ol world and the top of the car gave them a pretty good vantage point to view it from. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Cross Bow is now my preferred means of eradication. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Best push mower in the \"low priced\" catagory?

( I could easily spend 99 dollars on whatever Walmart has on special, but would I be replacing it every other year? ) No, I have 5 years on my $99 Walmart special. It is a 19", 3.5 hp Yardman, B&S engine, side discharge, no throttle control. Just a primer ball at the engine and spring arm kill switch at the handle, wheel height adjustment is moving the axles to a different hole in the 1 piece stamped deck, This thing is so simple there in nothing to break except the engine which is steel not aluminum. I gave up my self propelled rear bagger push mower when I left suburbia and regretted not having a push mower shortly after, too much trimming with the weedwacker. I don't believe the mower I sold would tolerate the abuse this little 19" has taken without some major malfunctions, and the parts would probably cost me more than I paid for the little yardman.
