Buying Advice Best riding mower for rolling land and 6 acres?

I agree, if it is steep and or often wet then 4x4 is the way to go. My next best choice would be a cheap/lightweight mower. I live on a steep hillside and own a MF 2028? which is just a rebadged Simplicity Legacy. It is a heavy rear wheel drive mower with diff lock and filled agg tires. It does not go up these hills as well as any cheap riding mower I have had with turf tires and me swinging my #200 butt from fender to fender although it is more stable on side hills.

My experience is totally opposite from yours.I have a large bank I mow that's 30 deg in most places.Small tractors with turfs would spin out six feet up the bank.I set up a Legacy similar to yours with filled Dirt Commanders,75 lbs on each wheel and 175 lbs behind the rear axle.It would climb the bank everywhere including one spot that's 32 deg.I could stop going up and hit the hydro pedal and lift the 600 lb front end at will.Sadly,on the downhill run,the turf on the hill was not solid enough(faces north with moss in some areas) and the rears would rip it loose all the way down. Not slide, but just track it up good,so I went back to the 4WD Kubota.Set up right these tractors will do serious hill work and are very comfortable on rough ground.
