I have a Case 511b I just purchased this summer, with a snow blower. I bought it for work and don't plan to restore it, but I do plan to refurb it for both aesthetics and durability. I haven't had time to repaint it this summer, and being that its main purpose is to keep my driveway open during our Northern Michigan Winter, I don't know as I will be able to do any painting this winter either, unless someone has a suggestion for temporarily doing the tin piece by piece. At any rate, once the snow is done, I plan on hitting it hard core. So, in planning on it, I am wondering what sort of rust remover is considered to be the best? It is in decent shape, but there is certainly a little rust and I was planning on hitting all the nooks and crannies with a rust remover to try and ensure that the paint job will last until I am able to afford to trade up to something with a forward facing snowblower (hopefully). I am a novice when it comes to painting anything, but I have painted a bit of wood. I have never really painted anything metal, my main maintenance and repair experiences growing up were off road motorcyles, which didn't usually last long enough to rust, and if you need to pretty it up, you bought new plastic, not paint. From what I have read about it so far, it seems to be pretty much the same principle as wood, roughen, clean, prime, and as many coats as you can stand, not rushing the drying time, except for rust removal. If anyone has any suggested reading on the subject, or major mistakes that are commonly made, I would welcome any and all advice.
