best string? stihl fs250

well i sent the girlfriend to pick up a 50' donut of .105 magnum gatorline before work, and i headed the other way to the case ih dealer and to my surprise there a stihl dealer also so i went ahead and picked up one of the three sided blades, i guess well see how they work tomorrow.

I dont think you'll regret the Gatorline.

Its a tough comparison between the line and the blade. The line gives you the ability to whip up against rocks etc. where you cant do that with the blade. Downside is you got to buy line and continue to advance it.

The blade is great because you can use it like a scythe and "place" the cut grass off to the side, out of the way. For pure heavy grass cutting without any rocks its hard to beat the blade if you use that "scythe" procedure.

I use Stihl X line on my FS 250. Makes a nice clean cut on grass. This thing is a power house and goes through line fairly quick. Used some round Gator line and it eats it up just as quick. This is your best bet in thick stuff and even sapplings.

definitely not hating on the stihl, i love the power behind it. just loking for some string that will hold up to it. i plan on getting a blade, but i mostly trim around buildings so id like to find some good string. im not trying to cut saplings, but i do have quite a few thistles and some other kind of broadleaf (im not sure what it is)with a pretty stiff stalk. these would bog the echo, but working into them slow it would cut them, with this stihl it tears them up, but it breaks the string off at the head so i cant even use the bump feed, i have to take it apart and feed the string back out by hand. kind of a ptia.

If it is brand new I just bought an FS90 and the orange string on it was junk. Kept breaking off at the head also. After about 4 times I pulled the junk off and replaced with some Shindaiwa red line I had laying around. No more break offs. I usually use Gator Magnum I was out of it. Triangle blade a good choice also if you are not trimming around something it will chew up if you hit it.

I have a black steel head on my fs250 and cut the black .130 line about as long as from my index finger past my elbow and took the guard off and it will cut just about anything besides small tree saplings. Good luck

I traded up from an fs55 to an fs130 ansd it came with a head with 3 poly blades and a slot for a single piece if thick line. Works gret in the super heavy grass and brush. The blades do break down but are easy to swap. The 130 has a lot of power.
