Best time of year to buy a new or used compact?

I am looking to upgrade my JD L130 lawn tractor with a sub-compact or compact tractor (probably a JD 2210, a Kubota BX, or equivalent). I am in no hurry, so I can wait for a time of the year when the deals/prices would be the most favorable for a buyer.

Does anyone have a feel for what months a dealer would be most willing to strike a great deal? Does it ever become a buyers market?

I have two acres of nice grass, so my needs are mostly mowing, some FEL work, snow removal in the winter, and maybe an occaisonal need to use/rent a post hole digger...

It is going to vary by region, with the northern regions having less difference. Down south here in florida, I find that right before it gets cold.. all lawn equipment goes on sale. Best time to buy a lawnmower is right before they pull them from the lots..before winter Many of the tractors dealers run a sale or two as well.. as no one is doing lawn / estate maintenance down here during winter.. and it isn't cold enough for snow.. etc. Up north, where there is snow.. there is less incentive to put things on sale inthe winter.. as there is a need.
Sometimes when the new models hit.. the old models get a slight discount to move them of fhte dealers lot.. that will vary by dealer.
Same with used dealers.. when their lot gets full.. they try to move some of the 'lesser' ( cheaper.. mor e beat up.. less soptions.. etc ) units to make room for ones that will make more money.

Just my experience, if you live in a climate like mine where winter can be severe the best deals are usually found in the week after Christmas up to New Year's Day. Most dealers get very few customers during the month of December and are eager to make a big sale to boost their year end total. I had the advantage of waiting for the proper time and by comparison shopping saved even more.
