Hello all,
I have learned a lot from the members hear and would like to thank everyone for there help in deciding which c.u.t I should buy. I think I will opt for the TC45DA.
That said, I was wondering when is the best time to buy. Would therd be any advantage in waiting untill the fall or winter to order from the dealer. Do the dealers make better deals in the winter than in the spring and fall?
Are there better financing incentives in the fall?
On the flip side I would like to have it as soon as possible but I will not have the time to use it for the next 4 months or so, due to my heavy work load.

Thanks.

Availability may be limited in late spring and early summer since all the other guys are out having fun with tractors they have purchased, and there may be some reluctance for dealers to stock up on inventory in the fall.

Overall, the greatest selection is probably in the early spring. In pricing, unlike the situation with automobiles, "last year's model" is not significantly marked down from "this years model", and in general there is little dealer incentive to move older inventory off the lot by offering better prices. Of course, there may be some individual dealer's reasons for discounting and your experience may vary.

In general, the best time to buy is now, so you can use the tractor now. There may be some advantage for you to wait four months, since your purchasing now will mean that you're using up warranty time while your tractor sits unloved in the shed.

I agree with Docheb... Tractors don't take the 'markdown' hit that autos.. or even consumer grade lawn equipment gets.. nor do they get the big incentives to move the units at the end of a season / new model opening.

For instance.. I bought my riding lawnmower and other equipment as end of season sales, and 'last on the lot' from wall-mart, and sears. In those cases.. the manufacturer actually has to remove the unit from the lot and it goes elsewhere.. and they really like to move them. For instance.. I bought one of those gas powered 44" trail mowers that retailed at 799 for 599 from sears.. in november ( a few years ago). and it setting in thair lockup area taking up space.. along with a small outside sauna they also tried to unload on my 'cheap'.. again.. both units that were out of season and taking up floor/storage space. My wall-mart mower was reduced to? 699 from 799 and I literally bought it the last day they had them on the sidewalk.. I drove by and saw them loading them up.. and stopped in and asked how much.. when I hear dthat deal I flipped the manager my credit card and said I'd be back in a few minutes with my trailer...

Unfortunately... tractors and inplements don't usually get that treatment. KK did mark down some of its red painted units when the yellow ones came out.. but the markdown was weak.. like 5% at best... For the few dollars difference.. I'd rather have the new yellow one rather than the rusty red one.

Lease returns.. reposessions, bringbacks, and otherwise 'new' but previously sold equipments may also be a bit of a deal.

good luck

I agree with the two Chris's. Buy now and use it. Tractor prices will only be going up, Model years don't matter much on tractors, only hours.

I bought in June this year as that is when NH was offering 0% interest for 48 months.. My $13,300 Tc30 after trade left me with a bal of $8800 now paying Less than $200 a month.. Ask the dealer for any Special financing and pick the time that fits your budget!!!! Hope this helps.. The dealer will usually know if New Holland is planning any discounts or rebates or special finacing.. At least that been my understanding.. Good Luck.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The "where" will have a lot more to do with getting a good price than the "when". It seems the only time dealers get overly aggressive is when they have something that has been around for six months and they are going to start paying floorplan interest on it. Unfortunately, this is usually the tractor you (and everyone else) don't want.

I'm looking at a couple of things as fars when to buy. With the price of steel be so unstable at this point and time, the Chinese buying up all they can get, intrest rates going up and of course the cost of fuel. With all that being said I'm looking at going ahead and purchasing before the end of the month. A lot of the farm implement manufactures have added as much as 10% to cover these rising cost. Usally when cost go up they never seem to come down unless there is a real bad down swing in the business.

I just Sold actually...so maybe anytime is a good time. I bought a unit in May, put 100 hrs on it and sold it for $500 less than I had in it. I had lots of interest too-although I have no idea how many were real prospects. Now THAT is valuable piece of steel that held it's value.

Oldforestor, did you get that new TN /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif you wanted before you sold or are you currently "tractorless" /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif? Glad to hear your TC40 sold so well.

I finished up the stuff I wanted to do personally and sold the tractor. Did I mention how impressed I was with the way that tractor held it's value? I did 140 hours worth of machine work over 5 months for $500 plus fuel. I have not purchased a TN yet, partly b/c I havent found a powershift, parlty because I think I may want a cab, and partly b/c I may end up selling this farm and working on getting another, which is a whole long story for another day. I cant stand having all this money sitting here, so if I see what I want in blue, I'll probably just buy it and park it.
