Best Tractor Footwear!

For those of you who like steel toes: I am a utility lineman in Real Life (tm), and I have to wear boots with toe protection. In the winter, the steel in the toe acts like a big cold sink, freezing your toes. My winter boots have a composite (plastic) toe; all of the protection of a steel toe and they don't suck up the cold. A bit spendier than regular steel toe, but worth it.

Several years ago I bought my first tractor an 8N. First thing I done was jump up on it with a pair of sneakers and promptly bump the back of my ankle on one of the heavy metal pedels. The pain shot all the way up my leg. I wanted to cry but there were too many people watching me. This mass of metal had already injured me and it had not even been started up yet! I always put on my boots to match my equipment.

In the summer, if I'm just mowing, its usually high top tennis shoes. If I'm "working" with the tractor, its usually steel toe boots, Pro Safe brand. They are the local supplier of boots to our Municipal workers and I think it's their own brand. I go look at their clearance rack every few years. It always has boots with scratches on them...... for $25!!! The style I like has a softer sole, so I wear them out bad in the heel.
Now if I'm doing snow removal, it's insulated Gore-Tex Rockys. Nice and toasty tootsies /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If I am off/on the tractor doing different things I wear lug sole steel toe work boats. If I am staying on the tractor I just wear sneakers...

I'm with Sneakey Pete - just below the knee rubber boots, with a steel toe - cheap, easy to don and remove (slip off my sneakers, and into the boots), impervious to fire ants, mud, you name it - clean off with a hose.

Gees, what a range. For my occupation, I actually have a very comfortable pair of Salvatore Farragamo and Bruno Magli dress shoes (yeah, I know, sounds strange for a tractor guy), but I'll readily admit that my Wolverine steel toe work boots are my standard ware when anywhere around tractors, especially when changing implements, and my forktruck. I know it's odd, but the hundred buck steel toe Wolverines (I have several pair) are as comfortable as the, er, well, let's just say expensive Farragamo "work" shoes I wear. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I almost always wear my Redwing insulated steel toe boots seeing as that is what I wear all day at work. The only time I differ is in the winter when I wear my "Mickey Mouse" boots to keep me warm while plowing...........SNOW! I used to pay a little over $200 for my boots but have found a less expensive place to buy them.

When I "piddle" around the yard it doesn't matter what kind of shoes I wear as long as they don't get wet! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
