Best Tractor Footwear!

I've never worn tires /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

No matter what work I go outside to do... I always wear steal toe boots. I know if I start out wearing gym shoes or another light weight shoe I'll soon regret it. Dropped too many heavy things on the toes when I was younger. My wife says that I must have the ulgiest toes in the world. So now I lace up the boots before going out.

I usually wear a pair of my safety boots. Both pairs are getting so the toe is missing much of the leather covering.

Knee-high rubber boots w/ steel toes that you can get at WallyWorld for $14. No worries about mud, fire ants, chiggers, etc. Wear flip-flops to the barn and leave the boots there when you're done.

I usually wear a hiker style for summer work, and a 8" work boot for fall or muddy work. Better traction with work boots. Also use high top 1000 grm thinsulates for winter work.

I've done my share of hours barefoot - I'm that kind of person. I don't recommend this, and yes safety & all. I like to go barefoot. Worst foot injory I've has was when I was wearing the leather boots - dern rusty nails.... Barefoot I guess I watch out a lot more!

I've tried all kinds of shoes, the spendy stuff, & my heels & arches (real high arches) do _not_ like those shoes. The el cheapo work shoes from Kmart fit me best, go through a pair every 2 years or so. I think in a Route 66 box?

Just me, I know I'm odd.

The best tractor footwear for me is whatever I'm wearing at the time. Of course, I do adjust to what I'm planning on doing but it can be anthing from barefoot to tennis shoes to work boots to dress shoes to my big, clunky, cheapie snowmobile boots for the winter. All work well except the snowmobile boots. They keep my feet warm but are so big they tend to hit things they shouldn't /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'll go with the steel-toe crowd, currently 6" Georgia's anytime I'm working outside (or inside on demolition/construction for that matter). And I'll agree with Mr. Joe - I've got a healthy respect for as much tool as the tractor and implements represent, have no desire to get bit.

P.S. don't forget the better half - Gemplers has their ladies Dunham steel-toe 'hikers' on a pretty decent clearance sale right now. I bought my wife a pair a while back - especially for when using the walk-behind mower. Took a little brow-beating to get her into the habit but she wears them now and likes them.

Time for those of us in the northern tier to get our own little dig in (in good fun!!!)
Since you always say "snow? what's that?" ...
now, I get to say "fire ants? what are those?"
LOL

On topic, though- I am with the crowd that says 'depends on what I am doing'. If it involves wetness or mud, "Muck" boots are preferred here- many different height choices on them.

Very comfortable Red Wing 1800lb-test steel toe ankle high boots. I usually just DECIMATE shoes - I'm very rough on them. I questioned my sanity when I paid the $150 price tag. But I have now had them for almost 3 years and they are still going strong - even the orginal laces. I think I recovered my investment this summer when one of my horses (the fat one, of course) stepped on my toe with his front foot. I also had the loader arm drop on my toe when I was releasing the quick attach bucket while the joystick was in float position - learned my lesson there /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif.
I occasionally mow with my sandals.... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. I know, I know...

I am on my fourth pair of Mason logger sole steel toes since 1993 (when i bought the tractor) With all the talk about outsourcing to foreign countries, I feel compelled to buy a lifetime supply of these boots now. They are a very fine product.
