Woody 1 said it best! Nothing runs like a Deere!
The advice given by others, however, is right on the money. Go visit the tractor dealers for the major brands. You will find one that you know will be just right for what you want to do. It's like looking for a woman - when you find the right one, you'll know it.
I bought a Deere because my uncle was a mechanic for a local Deere dealer and one Christmas gave me a complete set of JD tractor toys, complete with all of the attachments. That was back in the early 1950's. Ever since then, I knew that someday I was going to own a Deere tractor.
The one that I settled on was a JD 750 back in 1985. Even though it is JD green, it is a Yanmar. The 650,750, and 850 tractors have been described as "bulletproof" by some on TBN, and I would agree with that. It has been a great machine and I have had practically no trouble at all with it. It is still going strong.
A friend of mine has a Kubota L210 (I think) that I was driving last weekend. Talk about "bulletproof!" The construction is massive for a small tractor, even though it is only a 2cyl diesel. The castings are massive for a small tractor, but my 750 is built pretty heavy too. They are certainly not making them like that anymore, but then that is true of everything on earth.
You won't go wrong with a Deere, but the same can probably be said of the other major brands as well. Just try to get the right size machine to fit the scale of the property you will be working on. My 750 is just the right size for my 3 acres or Rhode Island stones. The FEL should be considered a must.
