nothing runs like a deer. My 755 with loader tires on front/turf tires filled with fluid on rears, spaced out as far as they will go, does it for me. Get a loader! remember this about your sizing a tractor for your needs.
When you start out,(clearing to see whats there) you will need a decent hp tractor(30-40) during the process of "rejuvinating" and working "with" your property, you dont always need that big. After you get 3/4 of the way thru, and its taken me 3 yrs. clearing and manageing my forest, you'll find you dont need and probably glad you didnt get that HUGE tractor you wanted in the beginning! It would be nice to have it every now and then, but you'll find smaller hp is better for maintenance of property. I opted out for dumping the belly mowerand got a zero turn mower, 60" deck. cause of :1)compaction.....tractor weighs in at close to 2000 with loader and filled tires and rotor tiller on it. Do i want that much weight compacting my yard? or would 600 lbs be better? 2) Turns around trees. I know you said you didnt have any/much, but you will want to plant some.
Just keep in mind....whatever tractor hp. you get, make sure there are some decent attachments out there you can use and will hold up. Tractor wont do you much good without toys to hang from it! GET THE LOADER THO!!!!!!
Have fun, dont get overloaded with to much information that is irrelavent until you sort it out in your head. Go from the bottom, figure out what you are gonna do with this. Gonna trade that big tractor off in a couple of years? or gonna stay with it. Bigger is bigger plots to handle. Sure , you could just put it all in grass and keep mowing it, but if you do it in "plots" and do different things in different areas. This is MUCH more fun! Now...wil that big tractor work for this? or a smaller one?
These are things you have to decide on how you are going to manage your land, and buy accordingly to those needs.
Have fun and keep us posted as to your thoughts. Would be interesting to watch this one play out.
