I've never understood the "economy" of only putting brakes on one axle of a tandem trailer.

I tow a 7500# boat on an EZ loader that came with the usual junk drum brakes. I converted to Kodiak disks, and man, what an improvement. Tow vehicle is a Suburban 4x4 3/4 ton.

For the BX24, I use a 16' TuffTrailer that I had built with disk brakes. That one gets towed with a 1/2 ton Silverado.

Both are set up with hydraulic surge brakes on both axles. Both tow - and stop - just fine, with minimum "pucker factor". Why would anyone skimp on brakes. For the thrill?

Just sayin',
Z.

I have my second aluminum trailer. Both of mine have been Worthingtons- a popular brand in the Northeast. I also looked at Featherlite and Aluma trailers-great units as well.

My first trailer was a single axle 3000lb rated trailer. I paid $1800 for it in 1999 and sold it for $1600 this past July-it held up beautifully-with no rust, of course.

My new one is an 18' 7k rated tandem utility style, with stowable ramps. Thetrailer cost me $4750.The weight advantage is tremendous-the trailer weighs 1205lbs.-leaving me a payload of 5795-plenty enough for my B2620-very similar to your tractor(loaded tires, FEL, bushhog) My brother's GMC Envoy became disabled last fall, and it was no problem hauling that to the shop-that alone saved my brother a $150 towing fee.

It sounds like a 16-18' aluminum trailer will be perfect for you-it would not push your Tacoma's rating with your tractor at all.
