More thoughts... How tall is the grass you are mowing? I use a 6 foot finishing mower with my L2800 and can cut 7-8" down to 2.5 inches with no problem. That's just grass... not woody plants.
I bought cheap (low HP) tractor but added grapple, hydraulic top and tilt, the pricier Stabilizer Bar for the grand L's... I wanted to out fit my tractor with extras.
Also, the PTO rating for the HST is 2650 (not what is listed on the dash). I normally run closer to 2800 rpm's
