I like castrol but tend to just pick it up at whatever dealer i'm in at the time so long as it's in plastic tubes not paper ,Some of our grease guns "And not all cheap ones" don't like paper tubes .

, I don't worry so much about name brand as much as I do about keeping up with maintanence. Better to keep it greased then feel it's probably greased.

I don't get it?? I got a bucket from some stuff at an auction, tried it and please tell me how you get it in the grease gun? I used a paint stick and kept stuffing it in there and darn I finally put the lid on it.

I bought a pump to run the oil though a hose to the top of my grease gun. It fills the screw on canister(sp) first, then out the gun. I got tired of having to stop and load the grease gun 30 times on the big jobs.

Does it matter on what type of grease? Yes. The most important thing to look at is the application, how many rpm's? Low rpm use a heavy grease with a tackifier as your rpms increase get rid of the tackifier. Tackifiers are usually found more in a marine type grease (usually the only difference).

As weather goes from hot to cold change the NLGI grade from a #2 to a #1, extreme heat #3 and extreme cold #0.

Electric motors need a poly urea grease, most greases are a metallic soap and will harm electric motors.

thanks for the comments on low rpm vs. high rpm. I had not thought of that. Obviously backhoe pins are low rpm. What is "high rpm"? universal or cv joints on a bush hog? Spindles on a mower deck?

I guess your comments mean that we need multiple grease guns? Are there any greases that handle the whole range of typical homeowner farm equipment?
