Thanks this is all really good advice trouble with growing to till in , is we have frozen soil from November till March-April. So i cannot really do that. We plant around Memorial day and need every day in between .But i think i may be able to get some Humis or somthing it would be a 20 mile haul and i dont know what it costs. But i may be able to i need to stop by the place and talk to them.

Jeff. I know what your facing. I spent the last 11 years in Monson up by Moosehead lake and Greenville (before moving to SO Central KY) Gardening was hard. Lot of slate where I was, frost early Sept to June 20. One May 19th I measured and still had 7 feet snowpack. In Monson I did alot of pots, buckets, wood flats and **** with what they called soil, it wasn't.

Now you and I know there are "belts" in Maine. Down in Dover Foxcroft, 25 mi south. I was able to plant a garden and do fairly well considering the shorter seasons. I did all the compost I could, grass, leaves, I added bit of peat, some 10-10-10 or what ever composition you prefer (I forget the numbers that's an example). I tilled everything under I grew or could scratch up cept them darn burdock! . Good garden. Shawn
