Oil & Fuel Best way to fill up CK35 diesel tank?

I did not want to divulge my method but here goes, it combines the siphon method and cost savings all in one.

I park my tractor on the down hill side of something / anything large that runs on diesel.

I remove the gas cap from the large thing that runs on diesel and then remove my tractor's cap.

I then use a hose and siphon from big thing to tractor.

Either when tractor is full or large guy who owns the large thing starts to run in my direction throwing things at me and my tractor I disconnet hose, mount tractor and drive off at a brisk 12.5 mph.

LOL... The way fuel prices keep rising, you probably got about 10 gallons. :D

What is the MPG on the CK35?

As I see my first tank going away I have been pondering just how much fun it will be to fill it. I don't see trailering it every fill, however at my current location the nearest station is less than 2 miles or so down the road. :D

OK so I won't be driving it 2 miles for a fill, however I may use the funnel or come up with another idea... hmmmm

I have a gas can that has a valve. Will not pour unless you push down on the outer ring of the spout. Works great. I'll try to post a pic.

I bought it at walmart, it's two and one half gallons, just the right size to easily handle, I'm gonna see if they have a larger one.

I use the same method as Highbeam......except that I use my thumb as a cover for the ventless nozzle, as I am less likely to stick it in my ear.....

I have one of those valved-nozzle spouts on my 5 gallon lawnmower gas can and it works great. I think I tried it on the diesel can and the threads were a different size, though.
If you try this approach, I have a suggestion or two. First, if the can is very full, don't tilt the can with the vent open (my diesel cans don't have vents, so might not work too well anyway), since fuel will start to run out of the vent. Just put the spout in the tank filler and start the flow before screwing open the vent.
Second, if you store fuel in a place with a lot of temperature variation, consider relieving any pressure in the can before starting to pour. I have had gas spurt violently out of a sun-heated (pressurized) can when the spout valve opens...fuel goes everywhere! Still, this demonstrates how well the spring-loaded valve seals.
Local hardware, auto parts or Walmart should have those valved spouts (or plastic siphons for that matter), but, as I mentioned above, I don't think they'll work well if your fuel can isn't vented, and, of course, the threads have to match.

I'm in the process of drying out what will become my new diesel barrel. I have a metal one that I've used in the past, but it still have 15-20 gallons of diesel that has a little water and dirt in it. So, I'm saving it, and starting with a new plastic barrel. At $4.13 a gallon for red diesel verus $4.53-$4.65 for on road diesel, my first load will pay for the new barrel and then some, besides being able to go back to pumping instead of spilling (I mean pouring) to refill.

I got 2 valved 5 gal diesel cans at Tractor Supply Co last week. They work well (spill wise) but are a bit awkward to lift. The biggest issue is standing by the loader on the side to fuel. I always get greased rubbing up.

Same here Mark, that's why I ended up with the 2.5 gallon can.
