Well, this is disappointing. Today I measured, with some help, just how much extra tilt back I can get on the bucket by shortening the cylinder rods. Looking at the specs for my FEL it would have been way more than I have now. But with the top cylinder pin removed and the bucket tilted back as far as it could go, shortening the cylinder rod by a paltry 3/4 inch gives me the maximum tilt or roll back. And this extra tilt only amounted to about 3 inches at the bucket edge. So my bucket configuration does not match the original specs for this bucket.
The only way to increase the bucket roll, or tilt, is to change the lower pivot point on the bucket. It appears that the wrong bucket is on my machine.
So now, after consulting with my son, we both think I need to add a bucket extension. After all, the main reason I want the bucket to tilt back farther is so that I can put as much stuff into it as possible. But the stuff is vegetation that is lightweight and not compacted. Except firewood. But I can limit how much I put in when transporting from the splitting area to the storing area. The extension will not be used for moving rocks.
I am still going to shorten the cylinder rods to get that little extra because it will help but I thought I was going to get a bunch more tilt back. Since it's only gonna be 3/4 inch I won't need to worry about dumping angle change. But I was really hoping for a lot more tilt back. Like the specs show and like my backhoe has.
Though, at the end of the day, I love my YM2310 with the out of spec Bulldog 285 FEL. Both the Yanmar part and the Bulldog part are well built. The combo will certainly outlive me, and I expect to live at least 20 more years, and my son will certainly be using them after I'm long dead.
