Beware ! See if this is another Craig's list Scam?

One clue, if the add gives a @gmail.com for the email address, it's probably a scam. If you copy the title for the post, and do a search with Google, usually it will come up with multiple listings of the SAME tractor in other states. That's your second clue. Just flag it and move on.

Thanks for the same-tractor-in-multiple-states tip kebo! This sounded too good to be true and apparently it is. New ********* is in Indiana.

$2800 wasn't it?

The one I posted was a completely different scam than the original post on this thread. JD2305 scams seem to be popular.

If it hadn't been scam, then someone typo-ed and missed a zero.

Then again...
...In the late 70's I saw a new Porche sell for $250.

Back story...
Guy went to Hawaii. Called his wife and told her he was leaving her for another woman. Told her to sell his stuff and send him the money. Someone I knew called on the ad and got his one year old Porche for $250 as advertised. Some people have all the luck!:confused2:

These scams were even more frequent about a year ago. Usually the same setup; picture of a nice tractor, lots of accessories, ultra-low price, no contact phone number. I have contacted a few of them for the fun of it. You usually get a similar story. The tractor is in storage at a freight forwarding company and they have a friend that works there, they can deliver as soon as they receive the payment, often through PayPal or such. Many times they throw in a hard-luck story about divorce or illness. After a few e-mail exchanges where I sound interested (and naive) I offer to pick it up, cash in hand (to save them the trouble of shipping ;) ). That's usually the last you hear from them.

What's even more fun is to get them to tell you where the tractor is. If they tell you, then you can say you live in the next town over and you can drive over with a trailer and pick it up in person and save all the shipping charges. They will drop it real quick then!! That's because there never was a tractor for sale, and most likely the poster lives in Nairobi or somewhere. Yep, CL was flooded with those kinds of posts a couple years ago, but you don't see them as much anymore thank goodness.

That's a pretty broad brush to paint gmail users with. Millions and millions of people have gmail accounts as their primary emails. I wouldn't say that someone using gmail indicates anything other than they use gmail.

I agree..I am the Original Poster, and I have a @gmail account myself and I sure don't place scam ads ...I don't know why he singled out gmail....what about Yahoo or MSN or all the others...LOL
