2006 Kubota L3400
Has anyone added a BH to this model tractor? I know kubota has the BH75 but is it any good? How does it compare to a Woods model, for example? Are the BH's on these tractors effective? Do those that own them, enjoy using them or are they just OK to use to get the job done? I have read some really move the tractors around and others shake the whole tractor. Is this true? Are they hard on the tractors components? Guess I am just trying to figure out if buying one is going to be worth it or should I just rent a mini-excavator for my projects (eg. several hundred feet of trenching, stump removal, rockeries, etc)..

cheers,

I have the BH75 that is used on a L2800. I have dug up many, many stumps and done some trenching. The only problems I have had were bent curl cylinder ( my fault ) and bolt loss on one control stick ( Kubotas bad hardware choice ).
The BH75 has done fine for my projects. I can't compare to the Woods since I have not tried the Woods.
If you have only small amt of projects that will only take a little while and you have time set aside for them then it maybe better to rent the mini ex than own a 6,000.00 implement.

Locally I can rent a Kubota KX-91 mini-ex for around $230 per day (same price for over the weekend - pick up Friday afternoon after 2 PM and return Monday morning before 9 AM - but only allowed 8 hours on the meter)

I actually rented one of these for a month (inspite of the fact of owning a B2910 with a BL4690B backhoe) - a mini-ex will be far more productive than a CUT mounted backhoe. It's really amazing how productive they are.

I almost wish I had spent the money I spent on the backhoe to pick a used mini-ex. Having said that, having the backhoe is very handy and conveinent - I wouldn't want to not have some type of solution, one way or another.

I use a BH75 on a B3030, It is a nice hoe and very easy to operate and remove. I did loose 2 dipper cylinders, 1st one was warranty(they upgraded cylinder), second one had to pay, Kubota said i pushed it to hard. I was removing stumps and guess i do see there is a certain way, you have to be carefull when rod is out of cylindar so you do not bed rod. I've talked to others that did in the same cylinder on the BH75. So weather its a weak link or not?? Other wise no other problems with it fits and works well on the tractor. My area is very rocky, if you're area is rocky and removing stumps put the strongest hoe you can on. I'd at least take a look at the Woods and compare or post about if any woods problems. I know i could use a bigger hoe for some of the jobs.

Hey BB, I know you've seen pics of my BH80-X setup. Basically the reasons I went with it over the BH75 are: more power, curved boom, heavier construction, thumb (option), 2-yr vs. 1-yr warranty, for roughly same cost, and so far I haven't read about anybody breaking or bending a BH80-X vs. lots of posts here about BH75 woes. Kubota's "using it too hard" excuse is pure crap, it should be designed to handle ANY use within normal applications, and that surely includes dipper extended. There are relatively few ways to abuse a well-made BH. I think mine would tear the tractor up first :) The only drawback I see to the Woods is that it's a little trickier to mount than the BH75. Minor. You'd be able to wring a bit more out of the BH80-X on a heavier tractor like the L3400.

Having said all of that, if you really have as much extensive 'hoe work as it sounds, I agree that a mini-ex will be much more efficient. Do both! ;)

yes, i have seen your set up and it looks very nice, i'm sure it's not nearly as clean now. hehe. i can't find a local kubota dealers that carry the woods so i'll have to call the NH dealer. is the 4pt frame mount standard or an upgrade? to get a comparison, can i ask what you paid for your setup?

cheers,
