About a week ago I was trenching with the hoe past a tree.
I heard roots breaking as usual, but then unfamiliar clink. 10 seconds later the rod came flying out of dipper clylinder. It actually cracked in half in the cylinder and came out then.
It is at the dealer now and hopefully is going to be warranty.
I'm just wondering if I'm pushing it a little too hard for this size hoe and could happen again? The roots where breaking and where not that thick. I know if its to thick it just would not move, Is this limit a setting that might have been set too high?
Are the Woods hoes more sturdy, hopefully this was just a fluke.

There seems to have a been a streak of people having problems with their Kubota backhoes here on TBN over the last few months. Hope this isn't an indication of things to come with my BX23 /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif . I can't believe that you were doing anything so wrong with the hoe as to cause something like that to happen. If the hoe was properly designed you should just hit the relief valve on the hydraulics before you get to the point where you do any real damage.

Oh, so there is a releif valve that limits digging pressure?
I guess that will check it when rod is replaced. Do you know if relief valve adjustable?

Bob,

I broke the dipperstick piston on mine in much the same way. It didn't acutally come out of the cylinder, but it happened while digging out elm roots. I'll be renting a Caterpillar 420 to get the last 5 stumps--the first two took a whole week each, and I'm not spending a month of back-breaking labor in 110 degree heat indices getting them out.

Anyway, mine was fixed under warranty, so yours should be too. Just make sure the replacement piston is thicker than the original.

I just bent the curl cylinder on my BH75 the other day.
Dealer said the new cylinders are 2mm bigger in diameter and Kubota knows of the problem and are working on a permenant fix.
The BH75 and BH90 are new implements and apparantly the engineer misplaced a decimal point somewhere on the cylinder capacity.

Are they still using slide rules over there? Or maybe they are sub-contracting work to China.

On the BH90 there is an adjustable relief for the boom, dipper and swing on the valve stack. The stabilizers and bucket curl rely on the system relief. At least thats what I remember from looking at mine. If you look at the valve stack you can see the relief housings which sit above and below the main spool sections. I suppose it's possible that the spools share the reliefs, so I could be wrong in my assumptions about the system relief being used. I don't have a service manual for the BH90. Your BH75 may be similar.

I have had to reseal the cylinders (myself) but have not broken or bent any. I am in talks with Kubota about making me whole. The ball has been in their court for a week. I'm waiting for the 'phone to ring.

MY BH90 is currently between repairs.
My impression of Kubota hoes is that they are powerfull tools that will not last very long. I don't think 120 hours use and then having to reseal the cylinders is indicative of the high quality product that they charge you for at purchase time.
JMHO based upon my direct experience.

To be honest there must be some happy customers. We just tend to comiserate with the unhappy ones.

All the best,
Martin

That's true of the BH75, but is it true of the BH90 ?

It seems like I've seen alot of posts on the BH90 over the last year or so ...... is my memory faulty ?

The BH90 was introduced at the same time as the Grande L **30 came out. I believe it was 2003 model year.
