I have the bh75 hoe and have read some posts about poeple breaking the dipper cylinder. Has anybody heard if there is a fix or recall on the way. The last thing I want to happen is have it break out of warranty.

I bent my curl cylinder with only a few hrs on unit and it was replaced with same size unit and not been able to break it again or the dipper cylinder and I have dug up atleast 200 mesquite & honey locus stumps and dug a trench for a culvert.

I did have to change the bolts & nuts to better quality selflocking nuts on the control rods to valves, I had one fall out completely and the other three would have eventually done the same.

I broke my dipperstick cylinder back in the summer. It was replaced under warranty with a larger diameter cylinder.

No problems since. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I appreciate the responses. I wonder if this is an isolated couple of incidents, or is this a defect. What is the critria for kubota to step up to the plate and issue a product recall??

Someone said that the failure is a broken piston and the piston is aluminum. This is rather surprising as the pistons in my loader cylinders on my JD 955 are solid steel. I just rebuilt one. I can't see them breaking.....

Are cylinder psitons commonly made of aluminum?

Wow! I had read the posts on this backhoe, unfortunately only I after I purchased it two months ago. I recommended it to a friend in NY and he also purchased it. His dipper cylinder broke on the first use. Mine has been OK however my valve control box under the control sticks leaked like a sieve. My dealer's service techs came up with a quick and working fix by doubling the eared washers with allen bolts so that they don't bend and let oil pass by the seals. I thought it pretty clever. I have since visited my friend in NY and his was leaking also. I called his dealer in Salem, NY and explained the fix I went thru. I think they bought into the idea. Anyway, I hope this helps others with this issue. Otherwise the machine is working great!

I broke two dipper cylinders, the first one was replaced under warranty with a bigger diameter cylinder. the rod cracked in half while digging thru roots.
Second time digging roots again , this time the rod bent.
I use it a lot and have not had problems since spring. I am very careful with roots and make sure the I do not work the dipper hard when its fully extended. meaning i make sure i'm not real close to objet i'm digging. And pay close attention to releif value sound and do not push it.
I guess if you give the dealer the number on the cylinder he should be able to look up if its the new cylinder with thicker rod. It not much bigger, might only be 1mm or so. I doubt they would replace though unless it broke.
If you are close to warranty and want the upgrade, i know the technic, just go for a stump and make sure you are close up to it. Just kidding but??

I am looking at buying a kubota with this BH75. Although the specs for this hoe look good Have concerns about the problems as posted here.
It sounds a bit like a man with huge chest and arms but skinny legs
Anyone have problems with the hoes produced in 2006? Did Kobota change the components used?

tks

Man I must of got the only good one that was made. I have had mine for a year and a half and have had no problems (knocking on wood right now) It has done a lot of digging, trees rocks trenches etc. I guess I got lucky.
