I'd like some feedback from BH75 owners about the bucket you have. This would be used on a B3030.

I was considering getting a 12" bucket because of the amount of rock in the dirt I'll be digging. I've also considered a ripper tooth, but for about the same price of a ripper tooth, I could get a 10" bucket.

So now I'm thinking about a 10" bucket for really tough digging & ripping tree roots along with a 16" bucket for more material capacity.

I'd like to hear thoughts, comments, gripes or praise from owners who have any of those bucket sizes.

Thanks.

I'll have a 16 " bucket on my BH75. Someone told me that a 12 " buckets are sometimes harder to empty ! But I've never experienced it myself.

Bandit, the clay soil that I have around here used to really pack into the 12" bucket that I had on my BX22, but I doubt it would bother in your soil. If it did, there are ways of attaching a piece of chain to eject the dirt. My clay wasn't a problem most of the time, but when conditions were right, you really had to work to dig it out of the bucket!

The L35 I rented had a 12" bucket and the full size NH had an 18", most likely because the rental shop knows what kind of abuse a rental is going to take in our rocky soil. I'm pretty sure the 12" L35 bucket is significantly larger than the BH75's 12" bucket, so I could see that I might wish for a 16" at times. I'm concerned with anything larger than a 12" if I go with just one bucket.

My buddy with the BX22 had the 10" bucket, and there were times when it would pack in with clay at my old property. I won't miss the clay up here.

I ordered my BH75 with a 12" bucket which digs stumps and roots just fine. Our soils around here vary from hard packed rock and gravel to some nasty clay we call "blue goo". For the most part a shovel is only needed occaisonally to unstick the 12". I did get a 16" a couple of years ago, and I use this bucket a lot. The 4" difference doesn't seem significant but you can pull much more material out of a hole in short order with the bigger bucket. I had to dig some perk holes recently and the 16" did not put a great strain on the BH75 even in the rock. Although I don't have experience with the 10" bucket I would like to give one a try since quite often I need to make long somewhat shallow trenches for water lines. So if I were doing it again I think maybe a 10" & 16" would have been my pick. Although I think it was a fluke, I broke the original outer bucket teeth off of the 12" when digging stumps and heavy tree roots. Subsequently I've never had a problem with the replacements. Good luck and enjoy!

The 16" goes out with nearly every BH75 we sell. We do have some clay here and the smaller buckets do clog. To use the 16" bucket and pull the heavy stuff from the center will give you all the strength of the 12" and the added capacity.

i got the 16" with my bh-75 and it works good over all, it will pack up though if the soil is wet. i am looking at an 8-10" for trenching work. I could certainly use my 16" for that but with small french drains my clean gravel would go much further if i had a smaller bucket. i also have a 150' water line to extend to the barn this summer but using a 16" for that should not be a big deal.
