2006 Kubota L3400
Time to add a Backhoe to my L3400 so I've been calling around to get pricing. Best price (same dealer as tractor purchase) is $6750 out the door for the BH75. Add an additional $750 for the UAT-100 thumb.

How does this sound as far as pricing goes?

Does anyone have this setup? If so, what are your opinions?

Pics good too. :)

cheers,

for $7200.00. Installed myself. Will Post Pic's later.

Not familiar with the UAT100 Thumb... why not get a Woods BH80-X with Thumb? It's got a few pluses over the BH75.

I managed to find a kubota dealer that also sell the woods hoe (only 1 in my area). His price on the kubota is $6400 and $7300 on the woods. He said most guys buy the woods because of the looks of the curved boom but that it doesn't really help with performance as much as woods touts.

Another dealer told me the woods does have more accessible hydraulics should anything happen to the hoses/fittings. He may have been thinking of the older kubota hoes because as far as the pics go I can't really see much problem with the kubota model. They do have a 2 yr warranty and kubota told me adding a thumb to theirs will void the 1 yr warranty. That's definately something to consider. Apparently there's been alot of misuse when it comes to the thumb and it has caused the dipper to bend. The woods thumb is a factory install so it's covered under their plan.

I have yet to see them side by side. I might have to make a haul to the dual brand dealer.

What are some of the other advantages you see going with the woods vs kubota? Is it stronger? Built better?

Thanks!

bigballer,

Go to the Wood's web page, check out "Dare to Compare".

Get the Sub-Frame for which one you purchase, either Wood's or Kubota's. Your tractor will love you for it.

Should you get the Wood's 4 Pt. sub-frame, you will need two HHCS
(Hex Head Cap Screws AKA bolts) for the bottom ROPS Blind hole that are tapped for M14 X 1.5 X 50mm. Wood's / Dealer sent me the wrong ones (Listed wrong in Wood's parts list ------ MAN0335 Pg. 6 , # 24 part #33125.) Since I have discovered this ( 1 month + dealing with this ) I notified Wood's and they acknowledged this problem.

I purchased "Bolts AKA HHCS" from Grainger Pg 2262, Item # 6BA46.

Once you decide to dig, make sure you know what's down there!!

call the 1=800- number in your area.

There have been a few people on here that have bent or broken BH75 dipper rods that had nothing to do with a thumb. I hope you do have an opportunity to see them side by side as I did... the Woods appears to be built tougher, the buckets are tougher, the hydraulics spec out better...just all-around improvement. You already found out about the warranty.
I just went to the Woods site, it looks like they're in the process of launching a new site and some of the links don't work.. so I attached a copy of the DTC.

$7300 is kinda high... if your dealer was also a high-volume Woods dealer, you shouldn't see that much of a price difference between the base model BH75 and BH80-X. Thumb adds $350-400.

The one thing I will give the BH75 credit for is it's a little bit easier to install & remove.

I have found the BH-80X with thumb for $6950 installed but the dealer is 150 miles away so I am thinking I might pick it up and do a self install thus saving a bit of $$ and time (2 trips). One dealer mentioned a special hydraulic plate that fits on the block of the tractor. Is this a standard part on the "kit" or does it have to be ordered seperate? JW - Does this make sense? Also, are the appropriate hoses included? Thanks for the info on the bolts. Do you also have an L3400? One more question. What size bucket's are available? I need to do a lot of trenching and would like something smaller than a 16". Maybe a 9" to go along with the 16".

Thanks!

Something to remember if you haven't priced a BH bucket is they are darn expensive, so just make sure on what sizes you want.

For those of you who are running the BX80, are you using a PTO pump or are you tapped into the hydraulics of the tractor. From earlier posts, it sounds like the L3400 can accomodate a BX80 - but only just.

Is it much hassle to have a PTO pump?

The 4pt Subframe kit comes with a Hydraulic Package (includes the Power Beyond block) and Hose Kit, should contain everything you need. Make sure you get all of that as part of the deal, because it's supposed to be a complete package. I have all of the instructions, etc. for mine, it's fairly comprehensive.

Woods (Gannon) has buckets from 9" to 36". I have a 12" & 24". If I may make a suggestion, get a 12" for trenching and either a 18" or 24" for productivity. 16" isn't enough bigger than a 12" to make it worthwhile. According to hazmat, the 9" bucket interferes somewhat with the thumb at the hinge.
