BH77 Stabilizer arm broken and cylinder rod snapped

From the photos, it appears to be a bad weld which caused the breakage. I doubt that you need stronger metal although that would certainly prevent bending but it doesn't look like the metal bent any at all which tells me that the metal arm is plenty strong if properly welded. Lack of penetration is a common issue with MIG or FCAW welds which all manufacturers use. This is going to be an expensive repair due to having to replace the stab cylinder. I don't know what a cylinder costs but my neighbor just paid almost $200 for each dump/curl cylinder repair on his FEL and this was just to install new seals. Kubota might just replace the cylinder rod it the housing isn't damaged which would be a little cheaper than a new cylinder. (maybe /maybe not when cost of labor is figured in).

Kubota uses metric cylinders, at least on their FEL's.

And usually nothing even close to inch measurements. But if kubota dont warrant it, I'd be shopping aftermarket to see if I could find a cylinder that would work. Might require a little modification to pins/pin holes or something, but any future issues it would be easier to source cylinder parts for.

Just looked it up at messicks
Cylinder 7K503-52020 $475
Arm 7K503-51010 $275

Gonna be a $750 repair if you have to eat the cost.

To buy just the cylinder rod is $360, So if OEM is the only option, I'd spend the additional $115 and get the whole cylinder.

I looked this up hoping somewhere I would find the specs for the cylinder bore x stroke, pin diameters, etc. but no luck.

The tractor has 96 hours on it, but a lot of that is without the backhoe. It was purchased in November 2015.

The rear tires are filled, which the dealer recommended, and I generally just take the weight off the tires, but sometimes have to lift them up to get level.

I was looking at the arms on the B26 and they have a plate welded around the pin to make them stronger, which is what this backhoe should have, not just a small piece welded in front of it.

I am aware that modifying something would void my warranty, but can't have arms breaking off like that. it appears it was a weld that failed, however now I'm concerned after seeing how weak these are made. I may do some measuring and see if a pair off a B26 will fit, or make some plates to weld around the pins in the same way as the B26.

Tried to add a picture of bot the bh77 and bt820 but it won't let me.

That new, and under 100hrs......should be a warranty claim for sure.

If the B26 would fit, they are definitely stronger. I have forgot to raise mine a few times and dragged them as much as the tractor would pull without damage. I still think you would be OK with the OEM replacements if the welds are good AND Kubota warrants them. I wouldn't look at spending the extra $$$$$ for B26 arms and all the mods needed to make them work (likely mounting points on back hoe frame would also have to be replaced with larger pin holes.)

Pulled the arm off and had a look, doesn't look like the weld had much penetration.

Could somebody with a B26 be so kind as to measure the width between the brackets where the arm mounts? The BH77 arm is about 85mm (3.35") wide, if the ones off a B26 would fit that would be much stronger.

What is the diameter and length of your cylinder? and diameter and width of the crosstubes that the pins go through?

That is definitely a flawed weld. Should be covered by warranty as it is obviously defective. Provided the pieces they install for the replacement are not flawed I think the strength upgrade you are looking for would be a non issue. Just my two cents.

I have the BH77 on my L2501. Granted I have only had it for a few weeks but I have put some serious strain on it. My years of operating a Case 580C have me in the habit of perching and leveling any backhoe when using. First thing I did when I got my L2501 home and started to use the BH77 I put a decent small level in the tool box. Just habit for me, I will continue to use it with the wheels off the ground, mainly out of habit but also because it just feels un-natural to be using the backhoe with the rear wheels on the ground :)

Re: BH77 Told this by Local Parts department guy.

While i was at the dealer regarging my L39 Trunnion Cylinder piston that has failed on the BT1000 hoe, I was told this by the Local Kubota dealer parts guy that the BH77 & BH90 are not good at taking hard use, Metal thin & soft, bends under hard use.
