Bicycle Seat For Child

Check out the attached picture. I picked this up at Target several years ago, it has a single 20" tire and is perfect for a ~ 4-7 year old. My daughter and I have taken it on many trips together. (my family is partial to rail trails, we have several excellent ones within daytrip distance.) She can pedal (has no brakes though, good thing) It is an excellent way to include those younger children that aren't quite ready to solo. I rigged up a quick-release so that the "hitch" stays on my bike's seat post, the rest can detach easily.

This post has plenty of replies, and I don't have time to read them all now so I aplologize if this was said.
I am a very avid cyclist and I have seen and heard a lot in this regard. I think the seats that mount on the bike are WAY dangerouse. It disrupts balance and gives the child too much altitude from which to crash from.

Buy a tow behind trailer if you really feel that the child should come with you on a cycling excursion. Stay off of roads with it though. Light trails or bike paths only.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I guess I should have updated this thread sooner. My mother was nice enough to buy us a Burley Encore Trailer a few months ago. I couldn't see spending around $400 on this but she was glad to do it. We have gotten about 10 rides in so far. About 6 miles per ride seems to be all my legs want to do right now. Hopefully by the end of summer 10 miles will seem like nothing. I have attached a picture I got from Burley's website of the trailer. This is an extremely well made trailer and I would highley recommend it to anyone who can afford it.

congrats on the new trailer! it really is the way to go. i ride all the time, but have no kids....just think after riding with the little one all summer how fast you will be when you ride alone! you are going to rock!
