Thanks for the advice. I do appriciate it. All of it. I am not new to business, but I still learn something every day. Sometimes more. When my "helper" diddnt work out this weekend I diddnt quit or arange to come back later. It just took longer because I had depended on somone else who diddnt pull through.

Rio Grande,

This note only relates to how I think. We have over 100 acres and not this is not much for some, but it is for me as I can only be there weekends and it has needs.

I get bids and do not always take the lowest. Plus I will accept a bid and there are times the work or workers are exceptional, not just what I expected. I will then give the workers and at times the company more at the end out of appreciation, not that the job was low bid.

Recently I had installation of a standby generator (as primary power since there is not electricity) with full wiring, breaker panel and transfer switch. There was an unanticipated issue and the company sent out two guys who worked four hours extra hours plus replaced some things and were charging me nothing. They also gave me some good advice that saved me time and money on an unrelated thing.

I spoke to the supervisor and told him I did not want them to eat what they could have not known. So I asked to pay for the parts at least or share the labor. He did send an invoice for about $240 for this and I thought that was fair. I also gave each worker $60.

So I think differently as I am Blessed and want to keep good company and men in business. it drives my wife nuts at times, but that is how I think. I am not patting me on the back, only noting how my Daddy was and how I am.

Best to you,

Jim

Thanks Jim, that is good to hear that there are more out there like the fella I worked for this weekend. Most folks get to the paying part and get greedy. It was a refreshing experience to meet somone like you. I share part of that philosophy as well, but had he stuck strictly to the bid, I wouldnt have said one thing. I bid it for that money I will do it for that money.
