BiDirectional

My brother and I almost purchased one years ago in the early 80's. It was a used Versatile. It was a pretty cool machine. If I remember correclty they wanted in the low 20's for it back then and it had well over a thousand hours on it. The new one are quite a bit more decked out than they use to be. Probably cost over 100k now.

Hi,

Well, you oughta be sitting in your car when one of those huge things start up and this great big bucket comes out towards you. You reach for your keys to start the car and back out of the way and then, low and behold, just like a car you see it just driving right around you and when you look up you can see the guy smiling at you ( laughing at you ) because, little did you know, he was watching you all the time because he was facing you.
What a hoot. Really, really cool to see that thing take off down the road with what you think is the front facing you.

Take care and have a great holiday season.

Saw one of those in operation at the Penn State Ag Days a couple of years ago. I believe it was made by a German company.

It IS big, at least this one was. Lot's of horsepower!!

Both Valtra and Fendt have reverse drive tractors now. Valtra has an articulated model like the TV 145 from New holland but they also have standard tractors with Reverse drive as does Fendt. You can not tell the difference with those tractors and the Fendt is upwards of 300 horses or more now.

Those euro machines are amazing, I've been in a few now. From a distance they look like a regular tractor, get up close and you see the massive Radial tires from and rear, not usually duals, just really wide radials.

The front hitches are interesting too. The dealers here don't really use them for implements but rather as an easy ballasting device. You see some with a 800 kg weight box up front (2000 lb or so?) for when they have a big rollover plow.

Hey Tom, great to see another Canadian on this site. When you get close to buying your DREAM-MACHINE tractor keep us posted.

A Very Merry Christmas To You & Your Family As Well !!

Hi Vic,

Yup, there are actually quite a few of us Canuks here and many more just cruising in the background. When I look at some of the postings, it is suprising how many are from Ontario even.

Dream machine, I wish ...... simply not enough property for me. Only 2.5 acres. That bi-directional could pretty well run over my house.

All the best to you and your family this holiday season. If you are out and about, drive careful. Is not you but the other guy that you have to watch.

Later

So which way do you mount the tires on that thing?

It depends on what your use is. If you are going to use it both directions all the time they have a special tire for it. If you mostly use it one direction then point the R-1's in that direction. Normally the tires would point to the engine end of the machine as most work on the cab end would be either loader work or haying work. Any type of pulling work you would want to be looking over the hood anyway.
