Sorry about your job and the tractor delay. NO jobs are permanent any longer. Perhaps they've never been, IDK. But it doesn't seem to matter if you have 5 years seniority, or 25 years. Its all about the money with the employer. That's business.

The important thing is that you've also been smart with your savings. You're now in a position to go on to bigger and better things. That sir, is handling Your business in a smart manner as well.

I have no doubt that you will be back looking for a tractor in no time. Although I do not maintain a 'liquid' cash reserve as I should - although I'm working towards that, my wife and I have been maxing out our 401(k)s annually so there is a large amount of 'hardship' funds available should we ever need them. We also get short-term disability from our employer (same employer) and they are a global corporation with little chance of dissolving. Heck, my wife and I have worked in the 'company' for 13 and 12 years respectively, but the business has been divested, sold, merged 3x. So we now have the 4th company name on our paycheck, but have never actually changed employers.

Keep maxing it out! Never stop. Even though you are working for the man you will have something to show for it. Lots of 401k millionaire's these days. 2008-2009 sucked...but man if you kept on buying you were getting some fantastic deals that today are worth a fortune.

I watched my 401k git split in half 2 times and it was sickening. Once in 99 and again in 08-09. Luckily in 99 I had hardly anything in there.

Because I refuse to go into debt, we were piling up cash to buy a tractor, and we were very close. Found out last week that the company I work for has sold. Today is my last day of work. Thank goodness for my Dave Ramsey debt free plan. I have an emergency fund plus my tractor fund. If I get a job soon, I will be back looking for a tractor soon. I enjoyed my job, but I'm more upset that my tractor has to be put on hold.

I hear ya, I was same way...didn't loose my job but I did buy my first tractor in cash. A 1974 international harvester 674. $5,500. It continues to serve me right right alongside my 2013 L5740 and my 2017 BX23s.

thanks everyone, you know I'm going to be alright when I am more worried about my tractor then my job:laughing:
I have a nice severance package an emergency fund, if I find a job soon I will actually be ahead of where I was.
