Catching up:

ScottAW: Good idea- I just eMailed Amsoil re: a dye or color additive for ATH

carpenter383: <<holding it at relief pressure>> No - I guess the closest I'd come to doing that would be fighting w/ a large rock w/ the bk hoe.
If that were all it'd take to blow up my tractor............

amkfken: The dealer said it's an uncommon occurrence, seen 3 in couple of hundred tractors they've sold or serviced. But they did know that the gear is softer than the pump shaft AND as jeepcj7 pointed out, the gear has been redesigned so as to grab more of the pump shaft. I'll save the parts & take some pics, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.
Best - I'll post a new thread - ask who's had the same failure
If I gets a significant number of responses....

irvingj: The bk hoe isn't an issue now that I was able to get the boom up enough to secure the travel latch on it. Plus a third stand jack under the bucket will also help keep it nice & stable.
And thanks for the offer - but I'm hours S of you in NY
I didn't bother to ask dealer what it would cost - I can't wait the 5-6 weeks he's backed up.
Can't be cheap - said if they have to remove a tranny cover they pull the whole unit out of the tractor - sure - the have lifts & an overhead crane.
And speaking of removing/replacing the tranny frnt cover, they were very happy to learn about the grind/drill/tap/Kubota nipple fix for a snapped hydro filter stem.
They've had countless pre-filter guard machines come in for a $$$$ new tranny cover.
All due credit to jeepcj7 for that.

Amsoil guy said any dye would prob. stain the sight glass window to the point of it being useless

If hot fluid caused the pump to fail, there are combined level / temperature sensors available for retrofit that can be wired into the Estop /kill switch circuit to save any permanent damage. I am amazed that one does not find this kind of hardware on machines costing $ tens of thousands.

Here is one local supplier Temperature Level Switch ~ Liquidlevel.com

I should have posted this a month ago but:
Anyway, It was a big job and I had great success doing this repair.
My GC2310 TLB is back and better than ever. I need to thank the boys out at
Sossler's Garden & Farm Equip. in New Hampton, NY for their assistance over the phone. They couldn't believe I was going to do it w/o dropping the tranny.
Of course they have lifts & hoists. Me - a couple of stand jacks.
I really only had 2 setbacks along the way. The first required a little ingenuity.

After getting a nice bead of silicone on and snugging up the tranny's front cover, I realized it was impossible to then install the 4x4 detent ball, spring, and plug bolt as the location is right up against the frame. So off comes the cover again. *#%@$!!!! Problem is, in order to seat the internal arm (that shuttles the 4x4 gearing) in place while working the tranny cover on, exposes the hole & the detent ball drops inside the tranny. God bless duct tape. I folded all but the last inch of an 18" long piece and basically created a ripcord. With the cover a half an inch from tranny case, the arm, now in place and covering the detent ball, I gave a yank and every last inch of that duct tape came out. LUCKY,LUCKY,VERY LUCKY. I did NOT want to have to take that cove off again. (and scrape off all the silicone ....again)
That done, I put everything back together, filled it up w/Amsoil and......
*#%@$!!!! I must have tweaked the mid PTO shaft seal 'cause it was leaking like crazy. If I knew it was so easy to replace the seal w/o disassembling anything, I would have left it off 'till last. Used a putty knife to gently pry off the old one & w/plenty of grease on it, I slid the new one on and tapped it into place using a short length of 2" PVC pipe. DONE!
And it's dry. I worked the baby all day. Bucket, Backhoe, drove it around, parked it on some cardboard and there wasn't a speck of a drip next morning. Needless to say I'm a happy camper. And I have to say, a big repair really helps you bond w/your machine. I didn't take a lot of pics. Here's 2 in total disassembly stage.

Not sure if you'll get this reference or not, but here goes: "You're a better man than I, Gungadine!"

Congratulations! You should be qualified for a second job as a Massey mech! Looking at your pictures, I really don't think I would have attempted that; my hat's off to you! (Last tranny I did was a 52 Jag XK-120 back in 1966. I said then I'd never try that again- Scary!!)

Anyway, very glad to hear you're back in business, and yes, I know about the bonding thing!!!:D:D

Thanks for all the updates -- ah, excuse me, the EDUCATION!
