(Not sure what forum this would be most appropriate in, but here it is anyhow)

I was out bush hogging the other day and knew of a few trails that needed cleaned up as well. I figured I would throw the weed wacker (string trimmer) in the bucket and save a trip. It was in the mid 90's and I was outside doing manual labor for a little longer than I should have, so I probably wasn't thinking as clear as I should have been.

Anyhow, I got my trails cleared, but when I stopped to check on my fruit trees the trimmer was nowhere to be found. Thinking back to the last trail I cleared I knew I never went in reverse and had the bush hog on the whole time - what a sad feeling realizing there was a low-none probability of finding it intact. Finished up mowing and then got the 4 wheeler for a recon trip. Sure enough just around a corner I spotted the carnage. Here's a pic of what I could find. Pretty impressive what 54hp and a 84" HD bush hog will do! I never even heard it happen.

It either bounced out while going over some ruts, or got caught on some blackberry branches and pulled out of the bucket. Had the grapple closed so I still am not sure how it got out.

PS - it was a straight shaft trimmer.

Sorry for your loss of the weed wacker, let it rest in peace.
If it make you feel better I lost a chain saw off the back of my trailer when it feel off. But some on must of picked it up and had a free saw, it kept living, from your pics the weed eater did not.

Last summer my boss played "company cellphone vs. JD brush hog" Must have popped off his belt while mowing. Serves him right for not putting the job out of his mind while getting some seat time. :D

He brought turned the carnage into the IT dept in a Ziplock bag.

More like "Rest in Pieces."

That sucks though. I came close to doing the same last weekend.

I seriously doubt the damage is covered under the warranty.

A few years ago, my boss came in bragging about his new "commercial grade" weed eater he bought to thrash the weeds around his small fish pond. Then about 2 weeks later I find out that he was using it in a particularly precarious bank when a big snick slithers out from the brush. Well, he freaks and tosses the shiny new weed whacker into the pond as he makes a hasty retreat from the poor legless reptile. He apparently spent the rest of the afternoon dragging for the corpse with a grapple and crab line! Never did find the weed whacker. That story had the whole department entertained for hours! :)

When I first got my loader I thought a had a really neet place to transport things in. I put one of the lawnmower type weedeaters in the bucket and drove it down to the front gate. On the trip there it fell out and I promptly ran it over. It was with a shreader, put a 4000lb tractor puts a world of hurt on something itself. I don't move things in the bucket much anymore.
