No wonder neither the sales people nor I had any idea what you were talking about. I thought PAL was just a good friend.:D

Bird, I don't try to be smart with a sales person, only when they are pushy:)

I didn't mean to imply that you were being smart with them; only that I understand why they don't know what you're talking about.:D

I was in Sears tonight and saw the difference in a plasma and LCD. The salesman didn't point me one way of the other. Said they're all pretty good

Actually the more I'm talking to people the more of them that are telling me that the Panasonic models are pretty good. I got the feeling that the Visio isn't a bad model but it's the bottom of the model line and the step up to a Panasonic isn't a bad idea.

Either way it sounds as if the extended warranty is the piece of mind idea. I wouldn't be happy paying for the TV in the second year for free with a broken TV out of warranty....

Does anyone know for sure? I have heard that with plasma screens there are only one or two manufacture of the screen itself so all brands are using pretty much the same screen.

Sears has a 2 year no interest deal on TV's over 40" in size. We need a new one as ours is old and won't accept the digital adjustment.

So I'm looking at a Visio 50" and wondered if I should get the extended warranty.

Comments please gents.

Thanks Bob

Good Afternoon Bob,
My wife bought me a 32" Vizio last Christmas for our Vt home, I am really happy with the TV ! We have the Dish network up there because there is no cable at that rural location. We have been 100% satisfied with that unit and would reccomend it to anyone ! ;)

My mom bought a 32" Visio from Wally world. I have 2 issues with it.
1) The paint has worn off almost all of the remote's buttons.
2) There is no button for adjusting how the video is displayed on the screen. Such as 4:3, Justified, Zoom, etc....

Her's is now about a year old. Hope the newer one's are better.

Good Afternoon Kyle,
Im not sure about my Vizio remote, I allways use the Dish remote and hardly ever use the TV remote for anything other than playing a DVD. ;) I will have to take a closer look at it the next time I use it !

I bought this one. Got a home theather system and extended warranties on all of it for 2k. Not what I wanted to do but couldn't see buying this stuff without some long term insurance.

Now the question is to wall mount or not. I have 2 kids at home.

I think I splurged for the same exact deal. I also have 2 kids so I have not put up the surround sound package for fear of it toppling over on the 1 year old. We ended up buying a TV table from Walmart online. The good thing is, the kid's fingerprints wipe off easy with a damp soft clean cloth.

If you decide to wall mount, check out FireFold.com - Burning The Competition - Not Your Wallet | HDMI Cable | Wall Mounts | Patch Panels | Component Video Cables | Keystone Jacks | Cat5E Bulk Cable The best prices I have found on them. I've ordered some from them. Unfortunately had to return a few as well, but there return was quick and painless as well. No, I'm not affiliated with them.

We got the 52" Visio from Costco about a year ago, and have been pleased with it.

The only problem we have is that the DirecTV remote will not turn the TV off & on, so we have to use the Visio remote for that function.

We have HD, and the picture is far better than anything I have seen before.

Sure, if you do a side-by-side comparison in the store you will almost always find that the most expensive TVs have a slightly better picture. I don't watch TV in the store, I watch it in my living room and without a comparison next to it, our TV is great, awesome, etc.

I will keep the extra money in my pocket & put it toward an implement.

Good Mornin Dave,
Well theres the problem, you have Direct TV rather than Dish TV ! ;) My remote turns the set on and off just fine ! :D

All kidding aside, Im thinking there must be a way to do it, of course I have no idea how !

All you need to do is "Program" the remote. Go to the DirecTV manual, look up "Program Remote", find the code for the the TV set, follow the directions to program the remote.

One of the guys I work with installs Directv, wired security in homes, home automation, etc. afer hours. He supports our big lab infrastructure. The company wanted TVs set up in our buildings and he ended up doing it because the companies hired to do the work flubbed it up. Vizios were installed about a year ago. So far no problems.

What he did say was that they are throw aways which I guess most of this stuff is nowadays. He said that the Costco/Sams stores would accept returns for defects and give you a new tv. But the new tv would hold the same warrenty period. So if your first TV's warrenty was to expire in 12/2010 so would the replacement TV.

Something you might want to ask about if you buy ANY of these TVs.

We have had some Plasma's on the wall for at least 4-5 years without any trouble. Not sure of the brand though.

Me? I am waiting for the prices to keep on falling before we buy a 56-60 inch TV. :D

Later,
Dan

Right there lies the crux of the problem. There is no code for our TV set.

Try 11756 or 11758 - From the DirecTV web site

I had the same problem with an Insignia TV (Best Buy store brand) and I think I found it just as EarPlug says.
