I wonder about the "C" channel gooseneck construction? I never heard of any issues nor have I ever owned one but my preference is "I" beam construction.

You can get either one, I had that choice on mind, and I went with the 12" I-beam neck. All most all the trailer makers offer that. Keep in mind there is 14lb, 19lb and 22lb 12" I-beam, most wont say, but the19lb is the most common used.

We have had a 12PI since '03. Good solid trailer, tracks well. Great quality.:thumbsup: Can't go wrong with a Big Tex.

I have owned a smaller Big Tex landscape trailer for a number of years. Structurally it has been fine and the paint still looks good after being stored outside for years. The weak point is withing. I have had to chase down electrcal problems and replace the lights with LED lights. Wiring is a problem with a lot of trailers I looked at.

I'm also looking now at buying this class of gooseneck (20'+5' dual tandem @ 22.5K lbs GVWR). Big Tex and PJ are on my consideration list. Big Tex dealers appear to offer the best pricing (< $8K). Others of impressively good structural design found are Elite (Spiro, OK) and Mirage (Nampa, ID). Good used goosenecks are priced $5-7K which is hard for me to justify versus buying new.

I just sold a 2008 Big Tex 7K car hauler (that I bought brand new) to buy a Load Trail or PJ. What I noticed with mine was that the company did not primer or paint the iron below the decking. They merely placed the pine boards over the metal and painted only the metal that was visible. Another thing that I noticed was that they ran the wiriing (unprotected) through washers welded to the frame. I was afraid they would wear and short out. I also noticed that the deck boards were not of the same quality as those used on PJ's or Load Trails... the Big Tex boards were very warped. Check photos of the decking shown on dealer web sites and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Other than the quality control issues, I had no problems with it. I'd take a close look and compare the obvious quality control issues on trailers you're concidering.

I own a Big Tex 70 CH. Had to rewire the harness. The factory had long shiners hanging out of the butt connectors. Poor wiring. The wires in rear were placed through welded washers which could chafe. The four foot ramps on mine needed auxilliary wooden ramps added to load tractor and ballast box. JIM
