I remember Billy Beer. Plains, Georgia-home of President Jimmy Carter and his brother Billy. I am not positive, but I think I read that Billy Carter died some years back.

Man, that stuff was nasty in the 70's I can't imagine what it taste like now. I kept a six pack of that, and one of JR Ewing beer. I believe they were both brewed by Pearl beer.

As a kid in the late 70's beer can collecting was hot. I had close to 1000 cans some vintage. Most of them went to recycling after the fad wore off but I kept just a handful of special steel cans that I liked. I did have some Billy Beer but they did not make the cut for my favorite.:drink:

I remember Billy Beer and I remember Billy. :D

A friend of mine was into beer can collecting. He had hundreds if not thousands of cans. I always thought it was odd for a kid to be collecting beer cans. Not sure his father even drank beer. I wish I had his beer can collection today though. :D

He did have a Billy Beer in his collection.

We have Jimmy Carter to thank for making homebrewing legal.

I got a six pack of it. Any bids?

Billy Beer cans are not worth anything (empty or full) they produced somewhat like 3 million cans. The only reason some people think there is value in Billy Beer is because shortly after they (4 different brewrys) quit producting the stuff (1980ish) somebody took out ads in newspapers selling cases for $1000 (claiming their rarity) and then offering them for the "bargain" price of $200. Come to find out later there is/was a surplus of the stuff around the country. The only value is in pop culture because it was promoted and partly funded by the drunk brother of a then president. Put it this way old unopened bottles/cans of Crystal Pepsi are worth 3 times what Billy Beer is worth.

It was fun doing this. I have sampled some old ring tab Budweiser and this tasted better than that, as in this aged better.

Yes we do.

I was living in Atlanta when Jimmy was the Governor of GA. My class did a tour of the Governor's Mansion. Funny thing is that I do not remember going inside but we must have but what I do remember was Amy Carter's swing set out back. :D

It was really cheap.

That beer had to be nasty. Beer is not wine ... it does not age well.:)

Agree !! I tried some of that swill back when it first came out, it was swill then and will always be swill.

I bought a six-pack when it came out in the 70's......took a slug and dumped the rest.....

Years later I chucked the remaining 5 cans in the garboonski......

Wished I would've saved it just for the yuk factor.....

While on the subject of beers of the '70's, anybody remember Primo, the Hawaiian beer? My dad and I visited there about 1978 and I toted home two six packs in my luggage and gave them away to friends.

They still make that stuff, I don't know anything about it except we did some work for them recently.
