Thanks for all the replies...couple of questions...

1) Where is Power Service normally available in retail? Or online.

2) I hear farmers using a different deisel fuel? what are the differences between that and the retail ULSD?

Thanks

Down here, Power Service is available in just about every store around. You should be able to find it at nearly all auto part stores and/or truck stops.

Farmers don't necessarily use a different diesel, just a dyed diesel whereby most, if not all, taxes are removed from the price. It's called "off-road" diesel to be used only in farm equipment and/or construction equipment. In other words, in vehicles and equipment that aren't driven on public roadways.

In most parts of the country the "Off Road" deisel is nothing more than ULSD dyed red and has no road tax. Some may still be selling off road that is LSD but they are getting harder and harder to find. At some point all diesel fuel will be ULSD, it's just a matter of time.

My suggestion for fuel additives is simple. Use a additive that improves lubricity, has a good detergents package, help to stabablze the fuel while reducing oxidation and in the winter has a anti-gel. What brand usually depends on personal preference, price and availability. Some of the anti-gel's did not work this last winter but I get the feeling that these additive manufacturers will have their formulation changed over by next winter. It's as much of a learning curve for them as it is for the owner/operators. Uncle Sam spoke, fuel changed and everyone is having to learn to live with it.

In my area Power Service is available at Walmart, Meijer, and lots of gas stations and auto parts stores. The first two usually have the lowest price.

I get my Power Service at TSC here in Charlottesville.

We finally got our first supplier of B20 here in town. Unfortunately, his prices are virtually the same as at Exxon where I get a 24 cent/gallon retired employee discount, and he charges $25 to process a card that is needed to get fuel (no attendant).

So, I'm still waiting for another biodiesel source. Really wanting to use this "greener" fuel.

RalphVA:

I can appreciate where you are coming from with B20 fuel, but using it also carries with it some challenging "baggage". I see from your profile that your JD is pretty new so B20 may not "gunk up" your fuel lines, filters, and injectors. Apparently biodiesel and to some extent ULSD will "dissolve/lift" the sediment/gunk in fuel systems and create operational "challenges   :(. Jay

I like to think of it as a "cleaning phase" rather than a "challenge". Switching to either ULSD or biodiesel does tend to clean out gunk from the fuel system but that's not a bad thing. When you do first switch just make sure you have a extra fuel filter on hand. If and the key word here is "if" you start to have performance problems / low power after you make the fuel switch it's probably nothing more than a plugged fuel filter. The fuel filter is just doing what is should do, catch contaminates. Change the filter and keep on keepin on.

DieselPower:

Nicely stated :D. Luckily for my mental status I have only run ULSD in my TC29DA . I had enough problems  last winter with diesel gelling . I have been using Power Service (White)-"double load" in the Winter; as recommended since Mud Season began. Jay
