BioDiesel

Tractorless,

The main reason I ad the the bio is that since my tractor is new, I don't want to build up the crud in the first place. Second, it cuts down some of the diesel smell that I'm not crazy about. And finally, I believe it is good enviromentally. I'm not a 50 mpg car type, but I do recycle and in IMHO little efforts are better than no effort at all. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hey, Dave: reviving an older thread-

A neighbor just dropped off a 5 gallon jug of biodiesel (he said it was made from soy) as a gift. He said he picked it up at a Shell station north of Gaithersburg, like Mt Airy or Rt 26 or 27 or something like that.

Anyway, the fuel guy said not to run 100% pure, but make it less than 30% of the total tank. Does this make sense to you? I don't want to mess up my TC40D, but am extremely curious about trying it. Any other advice?

Thanks.

Mark

P.S. Found another biodiesel thread where you describe getting your biodiesel at a station that sounds like the one my neighbor went to (post-'85 vehicle sign, Shell, etc). Could you give me the name (or at least a more specific location) where you got it? If I like it, I may want to get more /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Last time I checked Ford/New Holland would not warranty their engines to run on anything other than #1 or #2 diesel. You should be OK buning it provided you run it through a good filter such as a Racor Filter Funnel. The important factor is that it be CLEAN & WATER FREE fuel.

I ran 100% in my 25D just fine. The issue for me was running 100% gets expensive. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I have been using 20% Biodiesel for a couple of months in my TC35D and Kubota G1800. Haven't ex[erienced any difficulties and it smells better.

Thanks for your input. I was sticking my nose into the container and I could hardly smell anything but a faint solvent smell, and that might have been from the brand-new container. Knowing how diesel smells, I've got to imagine that this will be smell much better when used.

Gosh guys, I must be weird. I like the smell of diesel. It's manly. Some woman think it's an aphrodisiac. Not that I have found that woman, but she is out there. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mark,

I buy the 100% bio at a Shell station in Taylorsville which is at the intersection of Rt 26 and 27. Taylorsville is about 5-6 miles north of Mt Airy. It may be carried at the Shell station in Mt Airy, but I've never checked. I'm currently out, so I'll have to pay them a visit.

As far as running 100%: it's expensive, and its not recommend for older tractors, since the solvent effect can loosen up accrued crud in you fuel system and clog your injectors. I think running it in a new tractor is good, since you won't build up any crud. I've probably run every combination from 0-100%, I just pour some in the tank whenever I get the urge, but 10-20% is probably more likely. I don't know if there are any warranty issues, but I thought it wasn't an issue. Could be wrong.

I checked with my dealer and was told I would not have warrenty problems from using the 20% Biodiesel mix sold locally

Found the intersection on Mapquest. I think it may stop raining on Sunday, so maybe I will have a chance to test it on Monday or Tuesday.
Thanks!
Mark
