Birds in the Barn

I'd rather have bird poo on my stuff than bird blood on my hands.
Depends on how much your stuff is worth.

I prefer to try and keep critters out of places where they shouldn't be in the first place, however, sometimes it's about impossible. You get a persistent animal that won't get the hint and is damaging property, it's gotta go.

That seems to be what people are complaining about.:devilish:

Getting those birds to change their mind about where to nest is definitely a problem. I have one stubborn bird that has built its nest at the top of my portico 4 times already this Spring. I keep knocking it down but she just keeps putting it back up. The nest is 14' up and protected from the weather, so she knows it's an ideal spot for her eggs.

I would be a bit more tolerant except she and her friends 'dive bomb' my equipment all day long. And she's not very considerate at all - she doesn't even clean up after she and her visitors do their fly-by. Heck! She's even behind on her rent!!!

Ha! I have the same thing with a bird and my 2 story porch. She likes her nest in a small cove at the very top.

Knock it down - puts it back up x 5!

Persistent thing.

Who will give up first!! Next time I knock it down I’m spraying wasp killer. Maybe the smell will be a deterrent.

We had some swallows build a nest on our porch light right over our back steps one year. We'd left on vacation and when we came home, there it was, eggs and all. So we left it at that point. Next year they came back. I kept taking the nest down before they could complete it. They tried for weeks. Finally, I put up a bunch of thing foil strips hanging down around the top of the light. That deterred them. As soon as they came back the next year, I put up the strips again and they stopped the nest building right away. Another year of that, and they never came back. It's been 10-15 years, so hopefully another pair won't find the spot.

Speaking of smell being a deterrent: in the last few months I had a skunk find it's way into one of my sheds, and then get wrapped up in some plastic bags where it eventually died.

The smell is just finally starting to fade enough that it's not obnoxious.

Between that and the birds getting through the top of the door it's become a great incentive to replace the garage door on that building..... hopefully it'll get done this summer.

"I have 6 ft soffits, I think I just saw a tereldactle fly in there!"

If you saw a tereldactle fly in there just wait a bit. You may see a pterodactyl come out. I have a couple of them that scours my pond daily clearing out the bass fishlets :)

You all must live in Florida. I’ve never seen such large birds except in Florida. Some do remind me of dinosaurs!

We have many great blue herons up here. Big birds. White herons and sand hill cranes, too.
