BITTER LETTUCE?

The lettuce from my garden has a bitter taste this year.Its the leaf type ,cant remember offhand which variety r..?Iread somewhere if you refridgerate for 24 hours it wont be bitter,but it didnt work.Did everything i always do,cant understand whats different.My garden is totally organic with no chemicals,just the compost i make each year.ANY IDEAS?

overripe and 2 hot.

lettuce is cool weathered. once it gets to mature it starts to get bitter.

agree w/ Steve - now is not the time for lettuce. The leafy veggies do best in spring and fall; my spinach bolted a month ago and I tilled it under. Plant more in a month or so and by September it will be tasty.
