I'm fairly certain they stopped using toxic denaturants after the '50s. ... Check out the Poisoner's Handbook for scary details on the ones used during prohibition.
Well except for Paraquat the US sprayed on fields in Mexico to make smoking material unusable, in the late 60's. It caused the smoker to cough out blood.

That can't be good for you.

I think the biocide you are using is killing the algae but it's not removing it. Thus you can still see it. I would run this through a filter before putting it in your tractor. I would also dry out your cans before reusing them to kill any remaining bugs and try to use your fuel more quickly. In other words, don't store it very long. You may want to change out your tractor fuel filter soon as this stuff can clog a filter pretty quickly.

Paint stores sell a paper/mesh conical filter that should work well for that. HF sells them too, however in quantity.

Agreed. Dead is not gone, the exoskeletons remain and have to be filtered out. You need to add some fresh diesel to each can, swish it around and filter it or toss it on the burn pile and ignite it.

Is the problem occurring with road or off road diesel with the red dye in it?

Problem is with on road diesel bought at various stations. I am storing the yellow 5 gal jugs in a bricko block old milk barn. Wondered if that may be causing moisture.

Better not be corn liquor in diesel fuel...... Government mandate states 10% corn liquor in all gasoline sold retail in the country. Of course when it costs $3.50 in energy to produce $2.00 of corn liquor to add to gasoline, it's a looser and always has been. Without government assistance (corporate welfare), corn liquor distillers would all go bankrupt in a short time.

Look at it this way, your taxes help support the distillers and the e gas is crap anyway. Welcome to Amerika, land of the enviromentally correct at any cost.
Sir,you're incorrect about 10% ethanol being mandated on all gasoline sold.
They do mandate that x number barrels of ethanol be produced and added to gasoline, but there is no fed mandate.
Some states do mandate that ethanol be used in all gasoline;others like Michigan where we live make it attractive fuel tax-wise to use it.
Michigan offers a 6 cent discount on the gas tax if ethanol is used-big money at the pump!
You've no doubt seen "rec gas"available,it's ok for auto use,but you pay dearly!
While we all wish ethanol would go away,it does an excellent job oxygenating the fuel for lower emissions at a lower cost.
Good Luck!

Oxygenates effectively lean out the fuel/air ratio. But only on carbureted and early FI engines that ran too rich. Modern cars and trucks with sophisticated EFI and O2 sensors will adjust the fuel ratio to where they want it. Under normal conditions they already run as lean as they can without excessive detonation.

Oxygenates were useful to reduce emissions back in the '80s but now they have only a small effect on emissions (and they have some negative effects- increases in emissions that form ozone). It's no longer an environmental program, it's a corporate welfare program.

I was happy my local Costco has diesel (they built a new store) at a decent price, but was disappointed when I found out it had biodiesel. I don't have algae but certainly expect I could get it. Of course non biodiesel can get water in it and algae, but it seems to me that starting with biodiesel (if only a small percentage) is headed down the algae path. We never had algae problems growing up on the farm, we filled tractors out of 500 gallon barrel on stand when working close, but used 5 gallon containers otherwise. The only issues I recall ever having was running a diesel tractor out of fuel and fussing with it for awhile to get it primed again (on the remote farm, 65miles from home with limited tools).

Yes Sir tell it like it is!
