Grading Blade Removal on 914 MMM

I just picked up new blades for my 72" NH belly mower and after struggling for 2 hours with the help of my "He Man" nephew, GAVE-UP trying to remove the old blades. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's a long trip back to the dealer!

We usually block them with a wooden block in our shop and us an impact wrench other wise they can be a real pain to get off. If you dont have an impact wrench its going to be a struggle. We have had many guys give up and bring the deck in to take the blades off for them. If you dont have an impact maybe a friend that is closer than your dealer does. Good luck.

I have a 60" 914A MMM on my TC29D. I run two sets of blades: one set from first mowing until about the end of July; the second set until fall. That gives me sharp blades for the really wet and heavy grass, and again sharp ones for the rest of the year. It also allows me to get the blades sharpened at my leasure as they are traded off.

But the real note here is that I have never had a problem getting the blades off! It may be because the spindle bolts are loosened twice during the mowing season, and of course, under no torque conditions all winter. I use standard socket wrench to remove, and a torque wrench when reinstalling the blade bolt.

Don't know if the NH blade situation is the same as my Dad's King Kutter, but for that we block the main rotating bar or other blade, and then use a 3/4" drive socket wrench to remove the nut. The wrench set was one of these <$50 "made in china" sets, but for this works just fine. Almost a "must-have" for work on a tractor or implements. Good Luck.
