Mowing Blades running backwards

I bought a b7500 with a 60" belly mower last week. It's not cutting grass very well so I look under the deck and I see that the bladed are on upside-down. I ordered a new set on blades from kubota and I put the first one on and I realize it isn't going to cut because the forward edge, as the deck currently rotating, is backwards. I realize now that the blades are on upside-down because the blades are rotating backwards. What can cause this? The previous owner replaced the gearbox on the deck. Is it possible that the gearbox is the wrong one and is the problem? Thanks

Do you know for sure that you have the proper deck on your tractor ? is there and chance that a previous owner cobbled something together ?

I don't know anything for sure. The previous owner gave me the paperwork from when he bought it new and everything seems to match.

Gear box would be first thought especially since it was changed.

Can't you get blades for both clockwise and counter-clockwise rotation? May still not leave a beautiful cut, but might be good enough, depending on your standards for the area you are mowing.

Are there any drive belts on this mower attachment? And if so, could it be that one of the belts was too long or was the wrong one....and so it was put on in a figure eight instead of making a circle between the pulleys. That will cause the blades to spin backwards.

Was the grass previously blowing out of the discharge side?

First the deck for the B7500 should be 54" not 60". Then the belt will not change the direction of the blades, only the gear box. https://www.messicks.com/catalogs/kubota/rck54-24b/mower/a01300-tension-pulley

I suspect its the wrong gear box (maybe for a rear discharge deck?)

John deere gearboxes can be assembled in two ways: drive gear forward or at the back. This provides for 2 possible rotation directions. Maybe your box is generic and came in the wrong configuration. Uncap the ends and reassemble opposite ends.

Oh dear -- DO NOT get into this nonsense. Why does TBN not have a "thumbs down" or 'Bad post' button to press?? Blades on a given model deck only go ONE WAY , correctly that is. Others have mentioned the two most likely problems: 1) There was a screw up when the gearbox was replaced. Maybe mistakes rebuilding or wrong gearbox or who knows. 2) The other possibility is incorrect belt installation. The belt may be wrapping around the drive pully from the gearbox in the wrong direction. Anyway get this rotation direction issue solved FIRST before even thinking about any other issues.

It seems like you need some more diagnosis. Stating that the blades are upside down and the confusion about the correct rotation.
Take the time to remove the belt guarding and get the mower up in the air for access. Often there's a sticker under the covers showing the belt routing around the various pulleys.
Start by verifying the direction that it is currently spinning the belt/spindles.
Do your new blades match the blades that it came with?
