Yanmar sx3100
I have a yanmar sx3100. If I leave the bucket up in the air it will slowly lower to the ground. Very slow maybe a a foot a day. Is this normal?

Yes, that is normal. The best thing is just to lower the bucket to the ground and move the loader control around with the engine off to relieve pressure.

Yes and as DK35vince & 4570Man have stated. The same goes for your 3 point hitch (3PH); turn off the engine (at the end of the day) and fully lower the 3PH.

If you have a 3rd function, click its button to relieve that pressure too.

I have a cement pad in my shed, where my tractor lives, and I position a couple of 4"x4" blocks under the FEL and ballast box... easy peasy.

It is poor practice to leave any equipment with stored energy that may harm people or other property. As 4570man said always lower the attachments and with the engine off activate all the valves till nothing moves. Unfortunately there are lots of stories where people didn't follow this rule and paid dearly.

If you were doing this to assess the health of the system you could repeat this every 12-18 months. Just be aware that oil temperature has a large effect on the leakage rate so try to keep the ambient and starting oil temperatures consistent for the most meaningful results.

Yes, thanks for reminding. I always lower loader and 3 pt, was just checking.

Thanks everyone

Just normal valve leakage.

There are no seals in the valve. Just a metal spool in a metal housing with very very tight tolerances. So some leakage is expected. A foot a day is nothing. Even a few feet a day is no big deal. Now full up to on the ground in 8 hours is probably out of spec and would be of concern
