So I popped this rock out of the ground on a hill and when I started to back down the hill my right front tire dropped into the hole left by the rock.

Was a little off camber and the weight of the tractor tilted to the right side and I now see grease has squirted out the tiny hole n the zerk.

Do zerks fail, did I kill it?

Is the little check ball still there? If so push on it with the tip of a sharp object and see if it is still "springy". If so I would not worry about it. shoot some more grease in and go on.. But if you want to change it out change it out.:)

When I got my tractor, new in 2009, there were two zeros that were plugged - too much orange paint, ha,ha. After removing them and fiddling with them for half an hour, I just replaced them. Subsequently, I unplugged them by soaking in lacquer thinner for a couple days.

Zerks are cheap. Have a box with both metric, and SAE in the shop. Some times they plug up, some times you snag them off in the brush. I just grab a wrench and replace them.

I got one so hot when I was burning up my tiller clutch on the PTO that the ball exploded out. I guess it got hot enough to boil the grease? It was red hot!
