If the threads in the head look bad, buy a thread chaser. Available at most automotive shops. Not very expensive and may help save the head.

Threads are ok. Slight damage not too bad. Correct plug. I was able to put it back in and torque it down with no issues. I will pull the shrouds later today and check the head bolts and valve clearance before I start it again. Really concerned about overheating. Don't want to have to rebuild this engine. I agree with the possibility of high compression. I understand these engines have compression relief making it hard to check. Not sure how to go about identifying/resolving a high compression issue. I've ordered a head gasket and will pull the head when it arrives. Hopefully answer a few questions upon inspection.
