I have a sister who has been about 95 or 98% blind since before I was born due to a brain tumor. She lives in a different city just over 2 hours away and the biggest reason is the support there for people with a handicap. (our state capital)
There are talking caller ID boxes but be sure the local phone company can support it. Radio Shack did sell them. Think they also sell the talking watch, press a button and it tells the time. Radio Shack probably is a good store for electronic supplies. There there are phones that will dial based upon voice but think all those have to be program so be sure to pull information and operator in as two options. In some situation there is no cost for their use by the legally registered handicapped. As to keys, cutting grooves into them even works for those who can see but have keys that look alike.
An intercom system for the door is also good.
