This is what it looks like outside in a light industrial area. Big piles being fed to a melter.

doesn't seem to be much snow to warrant snow melters

They were just finishing up when I arrived and took the photos. All the snow from a series of loading docks had been put into piles and the loaders were just moving the last piles to the melter. This was in a suburb of Boston so there actually was more room available for snow piles and I was also a bit surprised they were using a melter but I guess they just wanted it gone so the snow didn't interfere with business.

They need to build a couple of snow melting barns with pits that can be dumped
into by standard dump trucks like they use on Hokkaido Island.
As mentioned before, the population density of Hokkaido is about 2% that of Boston. Metro Boston has a population of 4.5 million.

The city is already melting 6,000 tons of snow a day with portable melters that can be moved near the site. I don't think there's any interest in digging any pits when we don't usually get seven feet of snow in a month with no melting.

Heard something about rain in the mix next week. If so we will see a lot more roof collapses. Wishing I had a snow melter in my yard!

My Brother in-law lives in Belmont, a town in the greater Boston area. Very small yard with limited room for snow. He has been fighting a losing battle with the city plow. It is difficult to keep the sidewalks clean with a 2 foot wide tree belt and a plow driver coming by every day to widen the streets.

I have five acres and a small tractor in CT. When the weatherman calls for snow I say "bring it on."
