Keeping an eye on the blizzard today. Probably won't get the BX out until tomorrow. This video taken with the security camera.
Looks like a June day on the Rock to me
Worked out of Gander back in the 90's. I was working at the base, as a contractor. I remember one night, the base had stood down early, and most of the town was closed, as it was blowing pretty good. Sitting at a hotel would have just delayed my return home, and since I had a 4wd truck and winter driving experience, I just kept working late that day.
There was a good sized payloader that was working keeping the road open between the town and the airport - that was pretty much
all it was doing was that one road. There was so much snow coming down, and blowing so hard that by the time the payloader was done pushing back the snow drifts on that short road, it had to go back to the airport (no more that 2km) and start again.
What I retained from being out there was that when folk from the Rock talk about a "flurry", plenty of other people would think "blizzard"...... so had to see this vid.
My Dad used to talk about needing to use a logging chain for a windsock in the Maritimes.... he wasn't totally joking....
