1991 Deere 4100G
I am looking to buy a block heater for My Deere Tractor, But upon reading some of the post, I see that there is a forum discussing "Glow Plugs" on the 4100 series. HUH ? .I was told by my DEALER that they did not put glow plugs on this model. The discussion also mentioned a PTO Switch, My tractor has a Lever on my extreme left. Am I to believe that they started putting "glow plugs" on after 91. And if so, Where can I obtain a Block heater "Cheap"? Thanks in Advance,Russ

I moved your thread to the John Deere Owning/Operating Forum.

Im not sure as to a specific models block heater, but NAPA sells block heaters for tractors and cars (at least they do here where i live). There cheaper than JD dealer sells them for. Also, ive seen them on ebay .

You can also add a lower radiator hose heater. These simply require you to cut the lower radiator hose and install this unit.

You can also add a glue on engine block heater Wolverine Engine Heaters | Outperforms Engine Block Heater - Cold Starts

these are what i used. There USA made and install in a few minutes. Work GREAT.

they also have battery heaters, etc.

An actual block heater that fits in a freeze plug probably needs to be model specific, and you might need to go thru JD. glow plug preheat is nice... but heating the oil/block protects the engine better IMO

Russ, Take a look at this thread

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/john-deere-owning-operating/223524-block-heater-question.html

Also, I did a quick search on the Model: 4100 on the John Deere Web Parts Catalog. The JD Catalog is a valuable tool when trying to identify parts for your machine, the Dealer Parts Department uses the same search engine. I just did a look-up on the 4100 Block Heater (attached), not sure if covers a "G" suffix as you indicated, if so, part number for the JD Block heater is the same as my '04 790 and mentioned towards the end of the thread. Another user identified an aftermarket supplier, you'll see from reading the thread the real challange is taking out the threaded engine plug........

Thanks for your info, GRS, Now I'm as confused as ever. In the manual, from the Link provided, it also shows "GLOWPLUGS".How does one go about figuring out if one is supplied with them? Is there a Serial # search that i could do?
