Junkman, or anyone else for that matter: have you installed one of the block heaters (freeze plug type in the actual block) on a BX 1500? I ask because my dealer told me that they only sell the hose mounted heater for the BX 1500 because the BX 1500's 2 cyl diesel is so small that there isn't enough room in the block for a freeze plug mounted heater; that came from the service manager who admitted he was only guessing as to why Kubota didn't sell any heater but the lower hose mounted version for the 1500. Talk about a "run-on" sentence!! The dealer wouldn't budge on not charging me for the install either. I am paying $10,400 for a 1500 with a 48" deck and loader - maybe he thinks I am trying to gouge him??

You might look into upgrading to the BX1800. I know that this has been discussed many times before and the BX1500 is a good machine. Having said all that, I would still consider the BX1800. I don't know about the block heater not being available for the 2 cylinder tractor, but if that is the case, then that is just another reason to upgrade to the BX1800. You don't list where you are from, but I know that there is a like new 60" mower deck on eBay and the starting bid is $750 with no takers. You could bid on that deck and save yourself some money to put toward the BX1800 if it is close to you. I would bid on it myself if it was closer just to keep as a spare. ... Junk...

Nothin wrong with an inline hoze heater. Work just as well as the in block type. They go on the bottom rad hoze.

I've installed the freeze plug type in my BX 1800 (doesn't take the screw-in type) but don't know about the 1500. I would do (and did do after my dealer kept being resisitant to the idea of a block heater) as Junkman suggested - contact Tractorsmart. They can tell you if Kubota makes a freeze plug type heater for the 1500; don't just trust your local dealer. The one for the 1800 was very simple to install.

I had my BX2230 back in for a detent problem and had him put in an in-line heater. They put it in the low pressure return line on the bottom hose. Installed he charged me $100.

I didn't have the time or place to do it myself so the situations justify the course of action.

IMO as for the BX line is concerned you either stay with the 1500 or jump to the 2230. The 1830 cost wise is so close to the 2230 it just doesn't make sense for Kubota to have that model??

Your dealer seems tough to deal with. Maybe you should look at other options for a dealer if you can. Is haggling over maybe $50 a sign of things to come in the future /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Junkman's the most knowledgable guy on here, but he made a typo. He means BX1830. The BX1800 was replaced by the BX1830. The BX1800 is only available used.
